"As well as paying tribute to Ashley’s work over the last 30-odd years, I’d like to use it as an opportunity to promote his slot as a headliner for the Love Hangover Festival (see link below) this Summer. We will be hosting him for a DJ set and also a live set as part of The Black Science Orchestra.

This mix celebrates his work as an artist and remixer and his wide range of pseudonyms from BSO, X-press 2, Afrikanz On Marz, North Street West, Ballistic Brothers, Disco Evangelists, etc.

A plethora of dance music styles are covered with some of his earliest releases right up to his most recent themes, showcasing his skill and his varying collaborations with some legendary talent from Inner City, Curtis Mayfield, Groove Armada, Roy Davis Jr, The Streets, Ron Basejam, Ghetto Priest and of course David Byrne", said Ed.

Slow Mo Lounge and its founder, Kongisto, are back with another mixtape. It's the 4th mixtape in the series collab for 2024 and this time it features exclusively the South African DJ. 

The project is called Glory Glory Hallelujah - Gospel Disco by Kongisto  ✝️ A spiritually-led musical journey through the archives of Gospel Disco.

South African-born DJ and event curator, Kongisto, started deejaying in his bedroom in 1999 after years of being inspired by soul, funk, disco, kwaito, deep house, nu-disco, slow mo, neo-soul, jazz & nu-jazz, afrobeat, 90s hip-hop and R&B.

Kongisto has worked with global acts like JKriv (Razor-N-Tape), Chuggin Edits, 6th Borough Project, YSE Saint Laur' Ant, Julius Papp, Buzz Compass, DJ Cam, Fingerman, Dave Mathmos, Too Slow to Disco, The Secret Soul Society, Monsieur Van Pratt, Vigi, Hotmood, Dice_NZ, Sunner Soul, P-SOL, Ben Jammin, and Loshmi to name a few. Kongisto has close ties with global slow mo record labels like Discoholics Anonymous, Too Slow to Disco, Hot Digits Music, and the UK's Slightly Transformed Records.

About the mix:

In the mid-70s, gospel artists used disco in an attempt to convert clubbers into believers and, in the process, left behind a heavenly body of work - Alex Needham (Editor of The Guardian, London).

Since debuting in 2017, Stephen Richards has notched up releases on many of the nu-disco and re-edit scene's most checked imprints. Here he makes his bow on another, Fingerman's Hot Digits music. The three Richards originals on offer sound like hybrid productions, where his original beats and instrumentation are joined by samples from vintage disco and soul cuts. There's much to admire, from the mid-tempo, break-driven nu-disco colour of 'Winter Sunshine', where mazy synth sounds, dewy-eyed female vocal samples and laidback disco guitars catch the ear, to the Italian disco-meets-Italo-disco squelch of 'Gynoid' and the layered nu-disco warmth of 'Beat Don't Stop'. Chewy Rubs reworks 'Winter Sunshine', beefing it up and pitching it up to house-tempo while utilising his favourite bits of Richards' original mix.
