Since the early 90s Rotterdam is known throughout the world of dance music for its many influential creative endeavours and one of these was the short-lived label See Saw. Active between 1991 and 1995, the label was the home to mostly Dutch producers who were just dipping their toes in the waters of house and techno. Or, who already had a whole leg in like Speedy J. 

Sandwiched between two of his early releases as The Melody (Discogs detectives know what’s up!) sits The Jewel EP, the only EP Gijs Vroom did under his Diamonds & Pearls alias. A kind stranger online once described the record as effective and joyful and we couldn’t agree more. It’s a mixed bag of zippy breaks, swirling pads, tight lately basses, and foxy vocal snips and like many records of the era it maximises charm with minimal equipment. It’s these kinds of twelve-inches that stood at the cradle of the Dutch house sound and so it is very deserving of a little nook in your record bag.

This one is for you! Afroelectro is a band from Sao Paulo mixing traditional brasilian music, candomblé and capoeira lyrics with loop machines, live percussion and electric guitars. 

This is not an official remix, all the respect goes out to Afroelectro. My track is an interpretation. I sampled percussion and vocals, added melody and beat.

First up on the fresh Amsterdam-based label Late Night Burners is Kurley’s debut “Feelings EP”. For this young and very talented musician anything goes, as long as it’s unique, warm, rhythmic, and raw, and this five tracker perfectly showcases this ethos.

From the uplifting, acid-driven title track, we dive straight into “Heartbeat”, taking us a level deeper. On the B-side Kurley starts off with the stabby, slightly melancholic “Long Time” while never losing the floor out of sight, preparing us for the vocoder-infused killer “Groove All Night”. Closing off the EP is “Tribute”, bringing a more exotic type of heat. In short: a lot to love.

The exceedingly rare and hard to find "Peace E.P." by Raze of Pleasure is getting a long overdue reissue on Still Burning, a new series within Late Night Burners.

In 1990 three friends from East London with a vision formed the short-lived project, releasing five EPs between 1992 and 1993. The "Peace E.P.", their second outing, took about three months to complete during the spring and summer of '92, and was only released as a very limited promotional pressing due to circumstances beyond their control. The guys were on a mellow come down buzz after London's hectic parties of the late '80s and '90s, and inspired by the Italian deep house sound, they recorded the "Peace E.P." live onto DAT tapes. Fear and loathing in Canning Town, brought to you in the shape of a fully authorised and remastered twelve-inch, as it deserves, for you all to enjoy for many years to come.

Chicago producer, DJ and all-round lovely Aguila is the first release on 90's dance imprint ~ There Is Love In You ~ with a fabulous EP of trance-infused house music laced with rickety breaks and rhythmic bass. Chock full of glitter-sprinkled synths, woozing deep basslines and melody-rich, heart-warming songwriting. This one's a keeper ;)

Lone reveals the first physical release on his new imprint, Ancient Astronauts, which has been set up to release new material whilst working on his next studio album. 

The three track EP, Abraxas, sees the producer carry out his first experiments with 303 acid packaged up in a breakbeat club tool focused sound – an idea which was sparked from hearing friends playing ‘90s drum and bass at slower speeds than usual. 

The result is a rip-roaring trio of tracks, with the heavy bass rumbles and searing squelch of Abraxas undoubtedly cementing the title track as the chosen club destroyer. Young Star Cluster follows up with a marriage of the rolling funky drummer break with bursts of 303 acid and Lone’s trademark empyrean breakdowns before How Can You Tell takes us deeper still, with choral pads opening the door to another chapter in the multifaceted producer’s sound.
