Singer songwriter from Wensleydale, North Yorkshire UK

I began my musical journey at the age of six, sat in the practice room of Hawes Brass Band with a Cornet in my hand and a load of music notes in front of me that I was still in the process of learning. That journey has so far taken me through that brass band, three orchestras, various singing slots, a rock cover band and, at the age of 23, has brought me here- where I play my own music to people across the UK.

2014 has been a great year for me so far. Having only properly started my journey as a solo artist in January, I have had the pleasure of playing at many great venues, made some amazing friends and signed as an endorsed artist with Cassidy Guitars.

To cap it all off, on October 4th I made my radio debut when one of my songs- “Bright Red Dancing Shoes”- was played on the radio via BBC Introducing.

Naturally I'd love to be able to tour and release my own music for a living, but as all us musicians know, it's not quite as simple as that! Whether that day comes or not, I'll carry on playing, writing, meeting new people and making the most of this wonderful art we call music!

I am a huge fan of open mic nights, and attend as many as I can all over the North of England.

I'm always on the lookout for new opportunities to play any gigs. One of my great passions is busking, and I regularly busk in cities such as York, Harrogate and Darlington. I think there’s something very exciting about busking, as it’s the ultimate exposure- nowhere to hide and open to both the elements and the general public. 

My aim over the next year is to play more gigs with my own music and to tour my EP across the UK when it is released in early 2015.

With any luck I might see you on my travels, and if you want me to play in your town or venue, please let me know- I’m very easily led and fit neatly on most sofas!

Description

Latoya Black also known as Latty was born in Hanover Jamaica in 1990. she was born into a family with a love of music and also musicians. She started singing at a young age at school functions and also church choirs, and has always had the passion for music. 

One good thing about music when it hits you feel no pain. Is her favourite quote writing and sang by Bob Marley which is a very big inspiration in her life.

Latoya's style is a unique blend of soulful R'n'B, and pop, with influences ranging from Rock to Reggae, and Hip hop to Gospel. She has already developed a collection of her own tracks, and is looking forward to recording and releasing more.

Latoya is currently furthering her experience in music with the acclaimed Access To Music Course. She is aiming to expand her skill set and collaborate with other musicians.
