Terry Malts’ third album is a long time coming, 3 years to be precise. But the time was spent well. Between stints of touring and local shows, Bassist/vocalist Phil Benson and guitarist/vocalist Corey Cunningham wrote and re-wrote songs over the course of a year in Los Angeles where Cunningham had moved since the release of their last album, 2013’s "Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere."

The idea was to broaden the Terry Malts concept and create a kaleidoscopic pop album that has a mixture of moods, each song turning to a different sound inspired by the records the band have loved over the years. The driving punk (Buzzcocks, The Undertones) that has been a cornerstone of the group’s sound sits snugly with songs steeped in indie-pop and power-pop (The Chills, Dwight Twilley).

Once the band was ready to record they enlisted Monte Vallier (Soft Moon, Weekend, Swell) to co-produce at his Ruminator Audio studio in San Francisco. It is the group’s first album recorded in a studio. 2012’s "Killing Time" & "Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere" were both recorded in various practice spaces by guitarist Corey Cunningham and the group was intent on shaking the lo-fi tag.

The freedom of the studio allowed the band to expand on their sound with the addition of 12-string electric guitars, piano, organ, and sound effects. From driving opener “Used To Be” through jangling ballad “Gentle Eyes” to first single “Seen Everything” and haunting closer “When The Nighttime Comes,” Terry Malts have put the augmented sonic palette in the service of some of their strongest tunes yet. The resulting album, "Lost At The Party," is a lovingly-crafted love letter to pop music in all it’s forms.

Drama – of the interpersonal kind – that’s what Hajk are about on their upcoming album. The band burst onto the Norwegian scene with their self-titled debut album, garnering broad appreciation way outside of their home country. Now, the highly anticipated follow-up is near – a record that both pulls at the heartstrings and urges you to dance.

Hajk’s 2017 debut received praise from the likes of Astrid S, Sigrid and Kimbra, as well as a united Norwegian music press. Internationally, outlets such as Noisey, Stereogum, Line of Best Fit, Drowned In Sound, The Independent and Clash Music gave the group standing ovations for their idiosyncratic, yet supremely catchy pop tunes, while likening them to everything from Dire Straits and Aztec Camera to Haim. On “Drama” Hajk embrace their urban influences, naming artists such as Solange, Frank Ocean and Thundercat.

With the sophomore album, “Drama”, a more confident band is on display. Sharpened by more studio experience, they have once again produced the record themselves. Blending analogue and digital sounds, switching between programmed arrangements and live takes from the studio, drawing on three lead vocalists and several guest musicians, Hajk has done whatever necessary to fullfill their creative vision. 

The title “Drama” relates to the drama of humanity and a somewhat naïve yearning for love in a world in which love sometimes seems scarce.

It’s been a while since the band recorded the songs for their debut album, and you can hear that they’re eager to get going. This time they are taking the sound of their debut a few notches further. We get the simple but grand ballads and we get the catchy up-tempo pop songs. In short, drama.

Hajk - Breathe

Downtempo indie soul/pop/folk ballad. 6/8 Tim signature. Nostalgic sound reminiscent of old motown ballads. Harmonic vocal hooks  and dreamy tenor Saxophone solo. Sorrowful lyrically content delves into personal struggles associated wth coming of age. The principle emotion at the heart of the song is one of longing. The song voices a pining to return to a time of girlish carelessness and imprudence.

Calls of Prudence

In spring 2018 Roman Rauch invited Tilman to join him on a Thursday all-nighter at his playground, the Sass Club. After that night full of amazing vibes and a never ending back to back session they decided to join forces in Roman’s studio for the rest of the weekend and this is the outcome: Friday and Saturday, both packed with banging drums and deep vibes!

International psych explorers Flamingods are back with brand new album ‘Levitation’ (3 May, Moshi Moshi Records) and have announced a run of dates including their biggest headline show to date at London’s Village Underground on 1 May.

The first single to be unveiled is ‘Marigold’, a multi-sensory psych-rock trip that finds  Flamingods on hair-raising form even by their own exuberant standards. ‘Marigold’ oozes fun out of every pore, a perfect antidote to turbulent times.

‘Levitation’ is inspired largely by the disco, funk and psychedelic sounds coming out of the Middle East and South Asia in the 70s, the album channels these influences through a vision soaked in mysticism, positivity and sun-drenched imagery.

‘Levitation’ is the follow-up to Flamingods’ breakthrough 2016 album ‘Majesty’ 
The band will be taking their incendiary live show to venues around the UK in April and May in support of the record, as well as a one-off-date supporting Omar Souleyman in Bristol January 31st.
