One day I came home. When I switched the light on in the closet as I slid out of my heels, this poem reminded me of my favorite childhood program, Mr. Rogers.

Light switches
turning me on turning me off

One flick, there's mommy mode
next flip,  there's  a college load

Married with kids is one way
single 40 something the next day

Round round the game is churning
hankering is the mind's burning

Maya's the director in this dream
teasing each role within each scene

She challenges me wondering
will I recognize the light

Mrs. Rogers comes home then
becomes Ms. somebody else

Sliding out of heels
slipping  into slippers

Tossing dirty clothes out
Soon she’ll be tossing this old tired body out

Many personalities get portrayed
As numerous as the rain drops…today

Dainty liquid dewdrops
dangling on silver slivers… of grass

Impermanence falls
Brittle leaves
Clinging to their branches 
Say please
drip
drop,
dripping

Down into my secret
Deep into my …soul's silence

Where my blessedness dwells
Tucked into my heart… so well

In the midst of harried deadlines
hung over those eyelids from sleepless nights

I honor life’s switches
turning me on to my eternal light

I am not the roles that I play
I am not the switcher

I… am… Simply
I am

ugly

pretty
yoga pants

pantsuits

Acknowledge them for wearing
their wisdom of absolutes

Secure them
when crisis obscures them

Protect them
when shields are needed to heal them

Hold them
tenderly
releasing
resting
restoring them to the
natural strength in recovery

Love them

Respect them
and be not intimidated by their power

Let them go
march loudly towards  
the silence of self-discovery

Live simply
Share honestly
Follow sincerely
Belong completely
Evolve naturally
Walk gently with a woman

Be open
Be vulnerable
authentic
compassionate
Be brave enough to risk exposing a hurt ego

Love them

Enjoy women in their freedom
as
it
is
your own
freedom

Listen deeply
Laugh loudly
Lean sweetly
Look closely into humanity through the eyes of a woman

And love them

Through The Eyes Of A Woman, Humanity Marches

I worked with a sample of "Betcha By Golly, Wow" by The Stylistics (1971), with an intention of creating a gentle sounding hip-hop track, brightly colored and full to the ear.
