My name is Lauren Leone, and I am a multimedia journalist from Batavia, New York, who is passionate about volunteerism and impactful reporting that provides a public service. I am currently a senior journalism and politics student at Ithaca College seeking graduate school and employment opportunities. I have interned at media outlets that center local experiences in their coverage, including WRFI Community Radio, The Batavian online news source, WBTA Radio, WKNO Public Radio, WBFO Public Radio, WNED PBS and Channel 8 WROC-TV. While working toward my degrees, I have been involved in student media like The Ithacan newspaper, WICB Radio News and Ithaca College Television. My specific interests are the U.S. criminal legal system, environmental sustainability, gender justice and the politics of social change. I have honed my skills in these beats through in-depth reporting on homicide trials, police reform, mental health care, the effects of climate change on natural resources and the intersection of government and political movements. I strive to translate my lifelong love of storytelling into a meaningful career in audio journalism, digital media or photojournalism. In my free time, I enjoy photography, long walks and NPR Tiny Desk concerts.
