Beige is the true color of melancholy is a multi-channel installation presented on Re.Sound a two day event in Huddersfield, UK on May 2018. The piece points out to the importance of the culinary culture in the establishment of immigrant cultures in Northern England over the past two centuries. The piece was produced with sounds recorded in the kitchen of Thai traditional cook Lag in Huddersfield, interviews made to second generation immigrants, and archive material that presents the role of cooking in the discrimination suffered by some immigrants that moved to West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester in the 1950s and 60s.

The single it's just the seed of #artpostcard2020 (made for Instagram): a collaborative project where different artists create content around the single, as a way of creating human connections in an increasingly individualistic world from which art is not spared.
Still Nobody Nowhere it’s a small reflection on the project and the motivation that has made me carry it out which has resulted in so much change and internal evolution in these last few months.
Still Nobody Nowhere is a declaration of intent to myself. It is a turning point, a break from my old beliefs and prejudices. Still Nobody Nowhere is to go back to look ahead. Listen more to that shy child so that he can yell at once. A place to be cool, speak slowly, or simply stare into space. Share ideas, connect and dig deep.

Experimental ambient guitarist, sound artist. Founder of Eko netlabel, Sem label & Disq An. Released w/ Microrama, Archipel, Constellation Tatsu, Dronarivm, Sem label, Disq An, Les disques imaginations.

Alexandre Navarro is a french self-taught guitarist, composer and independent producer. Born in 1974 (August 27th), he grew up in Bordeaux and today lives in Paris. In the early 2000s, along with his studies in anthropology, specialising in history of ideas and religions, he studied electroacoustics and concrete music with teacher and composer Christian Eloy (Octandre, SCRIME associations) at Conservatoire de Bordeaux.

His compositions drift between electronica, ambient and post-rock, exploring sound design, sampling and delay in a constant search for a “sensitive minimalism” and a kind of poetry.

As Manchester’s streets and skyline are warped by the ever-accelerating process of urban renewal, the city’s edgelands and green spaces are at risk of being swallowed by waves of property development. Not only does this raise questions about the ecology of the city, as carbon sinks are flattened and wildlife is displaced, but it speaks to broader trends pushing urban residents away from shared space, community and local identity.  

This project shines a light on these spaces and the activists, academics, and local people who have taken up the daunting fight against corporate interests in the city in the name of biodiversity, urban ecology and community wellbeing. As we are faced with crises of both environment and mental health, the role of public green spaces has become ever more crucial in the eyes of those who enjoy, nurture, and maintain them.  

As the tide of urban growth edges closer to the open boundaries of our shared spaces, the trees, wildlife and insects continue their gentle movement, unaware that these spaces are likely reaching the end of their rich lineage. If nothing else, this project documents these final days. 

This work weaves together recorded conversations, composed music and field recordings from a handful of Manchester’s urban wildlife havens. Interviewees include community activists Julie Ryan and Tara Parry from ‘Friends of Ryebank Fields’, award-winning alternative tour guide Hayley Flynn (Skyliner) and Dr Jenna C. Ashton (artist, curator and lecturer at The University of Manchester).

Commissioned by Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in 2020.
