Johannes Volk‘s career began in 2006 with a real bang. "The Mysteries Of Tharsis Montes" 12 inch debut from the vinyl collector was released by none other than techno virtuoso Jeff Mills on his Purpose of Mission 6277 label. A special accolade indeed, which proves Volk’s aesthetic connection to Detroit Techno, something he also demonstrates regularly on his own label Exploration Records. Following on from the "Tears and Walls" EP, his second release on Cocoon Recordings continues the tonal reference to the origins of techno in a highly unique style. "Nevergreen", with its driving sequencer synth, is a furious and mechanical workout with a harsh industrial vibe and unbelievable string textures that will shake the dance floor to its foundations. On the B-side "Awareness", Volk conjures up an unforgettably romantic soundscape without sacrificing any energy. After a solid minute, the foggy horizon opens up to one of those rare yet incredibly valuable moments, when you suddenly want to embrace the whole world from inside the club. With "Nevergreen" Cocoon Recordings presents an outstanding new 12" release to usher in 2019 and in doing so, sets a high standard for the coming year.

2018 was a landmark year for Irish live act, Hybrasil. Aside from playing Ireland’s famed Electric Picnic festival, he has also thrown it down in Ibiza alongside the likes of Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Len Faki & Sam Paganini at Amnesia, released on Gregor Tresher’s Break New Soil, and also traded Dublin for a full-time move to Berlin. As if all that weren’t enough, he has also just signed 4 tracks to Radio Slave’s ‘Rekids Special Projects’, recorded a mix for John Digweed's radio show and his track, ‘Lady Nada’ was selected as one of Beatport’s Top 50 Techno Tracks of 2018. 


Now, following a string of well-received releases on his self titled Hybrasil label and Hydrozoa, he delivers his third release for Ronnie Spiteri’s Kenja Records, courtesy of an intriguing three-track EP that also comes backed with a remix by Spanish producer Danny Serrano.


the ‘Inanna / Time to Change’ EP kicks off courtesy of ‘Inanna’. As is the producer’s forte, this one is high-octane techno, the likes of which has been made with the sole intention to decimate the dancefloor. A gnarly, pulverising cut that grows in stature as it progresses, it’s very much indicative of Kenja’s move toward more techno-focused planes. Eerie, dramatic and full of full of clever piano lines that lend the track a great sense of momentum, this is forceful stuff indeed. 


‘Time to Change’ is Hybrasil’s other original. Notable for its old-school prowess and Detroit-inspired rhythms, it quite expertly merges the sounds of house and techno with a sort of swagger that’s undoubtedly been influenced by Jeff Mills and his ilk. A captivating cut that closes a killer release in some fashion. 


Elsewhere, Danny Serrano leaves his stamp on ‘Innana’ in impressively inimitable fashion. Keeping hold of the original’s baseline, he conjures up a catchy, effective, low-end heavy interpretation that’s notable for an unrelenting groove and a drop that’s sure to prompt dancefloor pandemonium. e toward more techno-focused planes. Eerie, dramatic and full of full of clever piano lines that lend the track a great sense of momentum, this is forceful stuff indeed.
