Our fearless label founder and all round head honcho John 00 Fleming joins forces with Italian DJ and producer Roby M Rage on the dark and mysterious 'The Devils Gates Of Heaven'. Regarded with legendary status, John Fleming continues to delight with his brand of mind blowing music. He is one of the most gifted artists of a generation and his sound has graced a multitude of labels over the years. A hard working DJ, producer and promoter, he finds himself travelling the world, gracing the decks at countless venues with open to close sets becoming a big feature on his tours. Described as a national treasure of the trance world by Radio 1's Pete Tong, John 00 Fleming is an artist who has achieved international success in a career spanning over 20 years without dishonouring his musical essence or fans. John remains a very much respected figure on the underground scene. This is down to his integrity in his performances and his no-nonsense take on all things music. His long running JOOF and related labels continue to go from strength to strength and recently he has been sourcing some superb breakthrough up and coming artists who are proving their worth in style. Roby M Rage has been passionate about electronic music since a very young age. In the late 80's he started DJing in different clubs, festivals and radio shows: Alter Ego, Cyber, La Scala, Syncopate, Villa Ada Festival, Rototom, Asylum, La Capannina, Dominus, Sottosopra, Imperiale, Mandrea Festival, Radio Luna and Officina 99 to name a few. He has won awards for his skills and worked on the infamous DJ Mag doing artist reviews for a time. His style of production is mainly influenced by labels such Warp, R&amp;S, Bpitch Control, Nervous, Ninja Tune, Soma Records, Drumcode and Second State and his tracks have been making waves since 2014 with support coming in from many quarters. A welcome addition to the JOOF roster.The Devils Gates Of Heaven is a seriously dark and twisted affair that will prove popular on the floors with its tough edged approach. We're lulled by soft swirling pads that lift the hairs on the back of your neck before being gripped by the scruff and thrown into a blizzard of pounding beats and dirty basslines. An extremely brief respite falls on the break where we find surreal melodies that are soon engulfed by the solid dark trance groove. Our May prog assault continues this week with Australis own Matter who in our view is part of the very elite of progressive house artists in this country. 

As a producer he stands out among the very best locally and internationally with releases on labels such Particles, Proton, Balkan Connection, Evocative, Replug, JOOF, Anjunadeep... the list goes on and
 on and on...

As a Dj he's just as impressive and has played clubs and festivals all over Australia and the globe. This podcast is a recording of from Gathering festival in Sri Lanka where he welcomed in the sunrise with this three hour masterclass. What makes this more impressive is that 3/4 of music in this set are his own creations... 

Honestly this is one of the best "progressive house" sets we have heard in a long time, he is truly a master of his craft. Exceptional!!

Thomas Schumacher - (Noir Music, Electric Ballroom, Get Physical)

Thomas Schumacher was eleven years old when Depeche Mode released Construction Time Again. "I'll never forget sitting at home, listening to the album in my headphones, trying to figure out how they made those sounds."

Thirty-four years later, Thomas Schumacher still burns with curiosity. The Berlin-based DJ and producer makes light of his status as one of the most enduring, versatile artists in electronic music. "What I love about Techno is that it demands that you question yourself, reinvent yourself."

Thomas Schumacher is always pushing his own boundaries. "The art of being relevant," he says, "is to forget what you know.” In his early days as an artist, he had to learn how to physically create the sounds he heard in his head. Now, as a virtuoso, the challenge is to use his breadth and depth of musical knowledge to convey profound emotion. "Techno is not just a tool to make people dance," he says. "It is a very personal, intimate way of expressing myself." 

This intimacy fuels the unique vibe of a Thomas Schumacher DJ set. He compares himself to the captain of a ship. “I purposely steer my sets into rough waters. I want to help people get out of their heads and into their bodies. I create a safe space for people to lose their minds, in the best possible way. They know they don't need to worry or be afraid, because I’ve got them. I know what I'm doing. They can let go and just be." 

When not guiding clubbers through seas of sound, Schumacher reaches them via his productions on his label Electric Ballroom, and his weekly NOW podcast. NOW is a showcase for his low-key charm and impeccable ear for a great tune. And, like his DJ sets, the podcast is a forum for his studio output including the recent Natural Rhythm EPs on Noir. 

The more you do, the more there is to explore, the more opportunities to invent, connect, and imagine. "I am always the one to change it up," Thomas Schumacher grins. "My ongoing ambition is to connect to the crowd, year after year. It's what lights me up."

His latest release, Natural Rhythm III on Noir Music, lit up the Beatport Techno chart, going straight to Number 1. Its highlight is "Stella", a propulsive anthem dedicated to his daughter. He sees no reason to compartmentalise his music and life. 

Everything is connected, everything is authentic. "There is no other version of me," he says. "When you meet me, you meet Thomas Schumacher."

Dee Montero returns to Anjunadeep with his latest EP, ‘Headspace’. The EP’s title track sees the Belfast-born, Ibiza-based producer thread classic house piano stabs and hard-hitting percussion under Meliha’s alluring topline. The Kuala Lumpurn singer’s powerful vocals are then further accentuated in the dreamy ‘beatless' mix of ‘Headspace’. Heavy on the arpeggios and piano leads, the EP’s third track is the high-energy club-filler ‘Rise’, followed by closing piece ‘Rapido’ - an animalistic arrangement of vocal chops and gated synth lines.

Laurent Veronnez aka Airwave aka many many other guises was born in Brussels in 1977, he is a naturally gifted artist and this manifested in him at the age of just 7.

Influenced by the 80’s and 90’s sounds and by greats such as Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Orbital, Oliver Lieb and BT, he honed his skills in music knowledge and technology.

Laurent would then see demos picked up by the infamous Bonzai imprint in 1996 and the stunning Airwave - I want To Believe was released. In 1998 this was picked up by many top DJ’s including Sasha and Oakenfold and later on by an up and coming DJ, Tiesto. 

Airwaves sound was and still is prominent in the UK and Dutch trance scene and this has helped a host of today’s top DJ’s be where they are now. His infectious music spread further in 1999 to Germany, Italy and the world and now Airwave is a very popular name on the EDM scene with a huge, loyal fanbase.

Versatility and great skill in the studio led to many collaborations including with his friend Jurgen Leyers with Fire & Ice and E.N.E.R.G.Y., Georges Petkidis on Planisphere and Marnik Braeckevelt with Antidote. The list continues with many other greats including Yves Deruyter, M.I.K.E., Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Tale, Marcus Schulz and John 00 Fleming, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Breaking boundaries and turning his hand to many genres of music Laurent has as many as 500+ productions and remixes under his belt. Laurent then started to develop his DJing and live performances and has played in some big venues, Slinky, Gatecrasher, Godskitchen, The Gallery, 1015, Dopler in Bratislava, and many others back in the day.

In 2000 he embarked on a new wave of performance with gigs all over the world in England, Scotland, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Canada, Netherlands, Spain, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, South Africa, with totally improvised keyboards while DJing and the Triloset was born and continues to this day.

Fast approaching 20 years in the business, Laurent can never be pigeon-holed to one genre as his impressive list of albums will attest. His first album Believe in 2002 performed very well and this was to do well again in the 2004 album I Want To Believe. Trilogique soon followed and it is now that Laurent’s passion starts to come through in a big way. Released first in 2006 this album contains three parts, bringing the audience three different tastes of electronic music into one single package, Trilogique would go on to be a huge success reaffirming Laurent’s position in EDM. Many more albums followed and each have made their mark on the world.

Time saw him finally running Bonzai Records with his long time partners and friends, and also expanding his knowledge of acoustics in order to develop his career as a producer and as a sound designer among others.

Laurent runs a monthly radio show called Progrez where he showcases a wide range of music, this is followed religiously by his army of fans the world over. Music that is full of emotion, special and unique with expressed feelings, many have claimed it has changed their lives for the better. When there are discussions on greats of EDM the name Airwave/Laurent always crops up.

He has a deep respect among his peers for his beliefs on the industry and he speaks honestly about how he feels and where he sees his musical vision take him. 

One of the most gifted artists of our time and with a passion still very strong we are sure to see a lot more from this man.
