Pleased to say that this 120 minutes defined a generation. 1999 was such a golden year for Trance music and many people reference this very set as opening their eyes to the power of Trance.

It's hard to believe how groundbreaking and well-polished some of the tunes that I selected and played out, really were!! This mix still sounds timeless judging by today's standards and features tunes from the likes of Tiesto and Ferry Corsten, long before they became household names. It will appeal to all those who love it fresh, raw and pumping!!! Ladies and gentlemen, 20 years ago to this month, I created my second Essential Mix (of four) which was broadcast on BBC Radio 1.

I wrote 'Have a Dream' with my producer friend Brian Hope back in 2004. This was my first ever 'Outburst' single and it's the only time i've made an Outburst production with someone else. It was a turning point in my career and has lead to the 'Outburst' sound that i have today! Please be gentle on my/our production in this track, it was made in 2 days almost 10 years ago haha.

This track samples the world famous 'I Have a Dream' speech by Martin Luther King. It's the 50th anniversary of this speech this week so that i thought it was a perfect time to share this track with you all for the first time!

Quincy debuts on Bonzai Progressive with the fantastic 'In Balance' which is backed up with two outstanding remixes. The Original Mix intros with a classic kick and hat combination which sets the pace of the track up beautifully. The deep bass is accompanied by a cool riff that evolves as the track progresses. Cool rising pads lead into a superb break filled with melodic sequences and some nifty percussions before getting right back into the groove. Great stuff here and a definite must for the more upbeat prog sets. Belgian duo Benoit Franquet and Cedric Piret aka Pole Folder & CP reunite to deliver a stunning remix. The guys have collaborated well in the past with releases on Bedrock Records. Individually they have reached the pinnacle of their respective careers and have gained much respect in the process. Here they work up a cool progressive vibe as the track intros with a sharp hat and a smooth arp that dominates the sound. Nice kicks fade in setting up a very cool rhythmic arrangement with the help of quality percussions. A deep resonating bass beefs up the sound and adds to the hypnotic tendencies as a result. 

In contrast, a sweet pluck adds a beautiful texture, superb stuff! The legend that is Airwave is next up to remix duties with his now signature Breaks Mix. Laurent has proven time and time again this his status as legend is very well deserved given the quality of his own material and also the quality he pours into remixes like this. Very subtle intro with some FX and percussions, a rising cymbal is greeted by nice and chunky kicks in breaks style. The ever teasing synth pads weave intricate melodies that just sit back and create an air of beauty. The beats are ever evolving and in full swing they are something to behold and when the melodies burst forth you get an intense euphoric vibe which just feels right. An incredible remix and no doubt will be very well received!

This mix will take you back to the very heart of "The Republic" as clubbers raved until the early hours of Sunday morning!!! Over the years, there were numerous Gatecrasher transmissions featured on Kiss/Galaxy FM, but I only ever managed to obtain this one live set. It's hard to believe that this was 17 years ago because the tunes still sound fresh by today's standards!!! Whether you are an experienced Trance veteran or new to the scene, listening to this mix will remind you of what it is about Trance that you love or enlighten you as to what proper Trance is all about!!

Airwave - Bonzai Retro Trance set at Sunrise Festival 2013

Laurent Veronnez aka Airwave aka many many other guises was born in Brussels in 1977, he is a naturally gifted artist and this manifested in him at the age of just 7.

Influenced by the 80’s and 90’s sounds and by greats such as Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Orbital, Oliver Lieb and BT, he honed his skills in music knowledge and technology.

Laurent would then see demos picked up by the infamous Bonzai imprint in 1996 and the stunning Airwave - I want To Believe was released. In 1998 this was picked up by many top DJ’s including Sasha and Oakenfold and later on by an up and coming DJ, Tiesto. 

Airwaves sound was and still is prominent in the UK and Dutch trance scene and this has helped a host of today’s top DJ’s be where they are now. His infectious music spread further in 1999 to Germany, Italy and the world and now Airwave is a very popular name on the EDM scene with a huge, loyal fanbase.

Versatility and great skill in the studio led to many collaborations including with his friend Jurgen Leyers with Fire & Ice and E.N.E.R.G.Y., Georges Petkidis on Planisphere and Marnik Braeckevelt with Antidote. The list continues with many other greats including Yves Deruyter, M.I.K.E., Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Tale, Marcus Schulz and John 00 Fleming, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Breaking boundaries and turning his hand to many genres of music Laurent has as many as 500+ productions and remixes under his belt. Laurent then started to develop his DJing and live performances and has played in some big venues, Slinky, Gatecrasher, Godskitchen, The Gallery, 1015, Dopler in Bratislava, and many others back in the day.

In 2000 he embarked on a new wave of performance with gigs all over the world in England, Scotland, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Canada, Netherlands, Spain, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, South Africa, with totally improvised keyboards while DJing and the Triloset was born and continues to this day.

Fast approaching 20 years in the business, Laurent can never be pigeon-holed to one genre as his impressive list of albums will attest. His first album Believe in 2002 performed very well and this was to do well again in the 2004 album I Want To Believe. Trilogique soon followed and it is now that Laurent’s passion starts to come through in a big way. Released first in 2006 this album contains three parts, bringing the audience three different tastes of electronic music into one single package, Trilogique would go on to be a huge success reaffirming Laurent’s position in EDM. Many more albums followed and each have made their mark on the world.

Time saw him finally running Bonzai Records with his long time partners and friends, and also expanding his knowledge of acoustics in order to develop his career as a producer and as a sound designer among others.

Laurent runs a monthly radio show called Progrez where he showcases a wide range of music, this is followed religiously by his army of fans the world over. Music that is full of emotion, special and unique with expressed feelings, many have claimed it has changed their lives for the better. When there are discussions on greats of EDM the name Airwave/Laurent always crops up.

He has a deep respect among his peers for his beliefs on the industry and he speaks honestly about how he feels and where he sees his musical vision take him. 

One of the most gifted artists of our time and with a passion still very strong we are sure to see a lot more from this man.
