The Italian-German composer, DJ and founder of the record label 99CHANTS. He has been releasing music since 2010, but it took self- evaluation and a re-examination of his priorities for August to lean towards the future and follow his most experimental inclinations.
In 2023, his output is harder than ever to define, stretching across genres and disciplines to chafe the heart of the human experience.

In the late 80’s Darren was passionately embraced by the ‘loved up’ generation. The Rave culture had hit his hometown Edinburgh. Massive English club promoters such as Fantasia and Rezerection traveled up to Scotland to give the ‘Ravers’ all night dance events, bringing with them the countries best Dj’s and Dance Artists.

Darren became very passionate about the music environment he was part of and he traveled all round the country to hear such music guru’s as Carl Cox, Sasha and artists like N-Joi and Shades of Rhythm to name but a few.

He became so connected with this genre of music he knew that he wanted to become part of it all, sharing his passion with crowds of people that shared his love and passion of dance music. These Dj’s were his inspiration and from this moment on he knew he felt strong about his connection of House Music.

He got his first set of decks when he was only 16 years old, a set of belt driven Citronics of a Mobile Disco company that supplied a bar where he used to be a glass collector. After a couple of years clubbing every weekend and scraping money together to buy music his parents bought him his first technics on his 18th Birthday. This is when he began living his dream.

It was not long till a friend realised the potential in Darren and approached him to start a club night of their own. Peaches n Cream was born!

Darren became a resident dj in numerous clubs and his name became a popular attraction for clubbers. Edinburgh was definitely well on the clubbers map, and because of his passion and commitment to the culture he was asked to join a group of friends in running and djing Edinburgh’s first ever pirate radio station. Boomerang FM. This allowed Darren to diverse from just playing upbeat funky house and he began trying his hand a techno, breakbeat and jungle. His talent, drive and inspiring ambition let him continue to experiment with many different dance genres of the next couple of years.

Darren’s dj style and structure is heavily inspired by his generation and his numerous visits to the dance capital Ibiza.

He plays you like a yo-yo, dropping big beats with dirty bass lines, mixing the old with the new. He effortless fades and cuts make his set a memorable night.

Now called MisterSmith, Darren is about to launch himself into the club scene again, bigger, bolder, rougher and tougher in other words sucker there aint no other!!!
