Rise Above by Lawrence Paul was created shortly after the discovery of 215 bodies at Kamloops Residential School. Having over 12 years experience working in a trauma treatment centre, he quickly understood the need for a song to focus on empowerment for the ones grieving this tremendous loss.



Rise Above is a hard hitting, up-lifting empowerment anthem for all those experiencing any form of oppression. This track gives fuel for those fighting against the hate of Indigenous and First Nations people and for indigenous rights across turtle island. 



This song takes an all encompassing look at the strengths that we as indigenous people have developed and currently possess while facing various forms of intense adversity in our struggle to exist and reconnect to our traditions and culture. Rise Above was created with hopes that the listener would take an internal look at their strengths and individuality. By doing so, they might see the strength and individuality we as a collective possess as many are a shining example of this.
