LAXX releases his first EP with Never Say Die Records.

Says LAXX, "My debut EP on Never Say Die is an introduction to a sound I've been developing and immersing myself in for the last 6 months or longer. ‘The Unknown’ just felt like a natural progression for me, combining different sounds and styles I like into a nitrous fuelled, off-key dance floor smash.

Step One has been a big hit this year and last; the simplicity just gets people's heads nodding and it's been tearing up clubs all around the world, thanks to Flux Pavilion and a host of other big names. It's been crazy seeing the massive reaction it gets every time it’s dropped.

Gold Plated is a progression of the sound into the most manic insane form I could take it! I love the harshness and groove to it. I want to keep people guessing, not knowing what is to come, and make tracks that make you take a step back and go 'woah!'."

When it comes to legendary labels, there aren’t many that have stood the test of time as much as the legendary Circus, a project birthed by Flux Pavilion during the height of dubstep’s UK empire, boasting arguably one of the most popular catalogues of any UK imprint at that time specifically. 

Despite the wane in popularity of the more tear out dubstep sounds that Circus was so closely associated with, the label has remained extremely active, branching out from just 140 music specifically and now looking towards a new breed of bass music producers to carry them forward into this new era.

For this latest drop they introduce the combined sounds of both Dr Meaker and the wonderful Lorna King for a sumptuous original creation entitled ‘You & I’, however, we are here specifically to discuss a particular remix that has managed to find its way onto the project. Enter: Hot Goods.

The Brighton based producer has been kicking up quite the storm of late, with heavyweight releases recovering super positive reactions on the likes of Bingo Bass, Punks and more. This offering shows us all exactly what he is about as he gets to work on rethinking an already fantastic original design.

He reworks one of the vocal lines into a euphoric repeating pattern as we speed toward a breakdown, which we hit with the force of a tsunami as waves of crunchy bass grooves come into the picture, taking a Matrix type feel. When this is combined with minimalist yet punchy drum arrangements and some seriously weighty bass arrangements, we sure are in for one hell of a treat.

It's not just the drum and bass die-hards who are getting into the Tantrum Desire sound. Their last release, “What Is Your Desire” featuring the monumental vocals of I-Kay, thrust this production duo further into the spotlight with airplay across Radio 1, 1Xtra and Kiss 109. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of views for the video and strong support from DJs in parties worldwide which, for artists of this calibre, you can take for granted.

So, sounds like they'd be satisfied with hitting those levels. Nope. They're back to push things a few notches further.

“Guided Rhythm” takes the Tantrum Desire formula and tweaks it. We know they can inject energy into a tune, and here they deliver a double dose. Right from the word go, percussive sounds project anticipation through the speakers. And then the tension's cranked even further with old skool stabs and a vocal riff that will make this tune immediately recognisable. As the drums build alongside bass sweeps you know you're in the hands of consummate dancefloor destruction technicians. And then the drop heralds bassline power and a rise through more high-voltage synth-work that won't let the rave slow down.

And that's just the drum and bass mix.

Next up we have a dubstep reworking that reconstitutes the elements into something that's completely different. Not just a switch of tempo but a whole switch of vibe. The sparser beats allow the intro stabs and vocal lick to develop into a drop that delivers bassline savagery. With the aggressive bass played off against a counterpoint of alarm-call high-end sounds, this delivers a late-night alert to wake up and keep skanking.

So, “Guided Rhythm” is a demonstration of Tantrum Desire's ability to keep their style evolving and twist up their sounds for any vibe. Whether you spin D&B or dubstep, these are going to find their way into discerning DJs sets across raves and airwaves wherever bass is appreciated.
