Summer night
transforms to daybreak.
I count fleas.

Ryōkan Taigu was a Japanese poet and calligrapher who lived during the Edo period. A Buddhist monk who lived much of his life as a hermit, he spent most of his time writing poetry, calligraphy, and communing with nature. His poetry is often very simple and inspired by nature.

The assignment this week was to produce a song with as much silence as notes. I did not interpret silence as being total silence.

First Disquiet

Digitakt + Syntakt + Norns + Mood2 + Guitar + Blooper

Piano sample from another project

Small guitar ambient guitar sample using Blooper as a fast delay with the glitch effect. Created tones using sustainer pickup and fading in to the delay line.

Kept it minimal to allow for space if other instruments come.

Added reverb kick on Syntakt

Added hi hat on 1, 3, 4 - just felt better

Added notes on Norns Awake application into Mood2 reverb. Captured small glitchy samples.

Lots of repeating ideas so I grabbed a few passes of the glitch to leave in as a choice.

Added a lot of gain in post processing. Need to look at my gain staging!
