Dear Orphic, Float Records and HEDON,

First of all, I would like to show you my gratitude for the opportunity you’re giving upcoming, relatively unknown, artists (like me) with this contest. It shows you have the hearts in the right places. 

Secondly, the mix. The way I challenged myself is was in a three part way. As always, I tried to stay in the mix and really work behind my decks (I hope this translates well to the listener). Only then I can get a sense of fulfillment when I DJ. Moreover, where I personally challenged myself the most, was to refrain from the more hypnotic tracks I would play ‘normally’ and choose tracks that were ‘different’ but still that felt close to me as a person. Lastly, because my track selection differed from the usual, I utilized slightly dissimilar mixing techniques. Ones that give off a more old school ambience. 

That’s partly where the title “A Shift In Ambience” comes from. I tried shifting the ambience of sound, without feeling like it wasn’t me who was playing. I just transposed on my spectrum of musicality to a point where I felt it was suitable for the moment and my mood. 

Last but certainly not least, I truely was filled with enjoyment when recording this podcast and I couldn’t stop bumping my head around when playing these tracks. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Ozzo - A Shift In Ambience

We are super hyped to present the 73rd edition featuring a high intensity hour of groove from re:flect co-founder Ciaocacao!

Ciaocacao is a female DJ living in Berlin. Next to her solo project she is also part and co-founder of the interdisciplinary collective re:flect. Music has always fascinated her for a long time. She used to love to dance for hours and get lost in the melodies and rhythms – today she tries to create these exact feelings of freedom and ecstasy through her sets. This is also where her inspiration comes from, for her there is nothing better than seeing how she can take people on a musical journey and make them dance. Her sound is focused on an energetic, groovy and rolling tunes with a high tempo.

As usual, turn up the volume and enjoy the mix!

My next guest on Yax Invites is Ben Walton.

Ben first started Djing in 1996 with the first production of Technics 1210 turntables which he used to hone his skills as a vinyl dj for over 20 years.

He has had a vast career performing at mountain tops in Austria, canals in Amsterdam to infamous clubs nights such as Revolver in Melbourne. He has run his own house, minimal, jungle and world music events in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, India and Thailand.

Currently residing in the Indian Himalayas most of the year, he will be coming south to throw down an eclectic montage of modern and vintage dance music.

This mix is a recording from one of his last live vinyl shows in Melbourne in 2017 at the now defunct Boney Nightclub, before he created a seasonal nomadic life abroad.

It crosses minimal, house, techno and rave with a heavy old skool flavour.
