Then Came the Last Days of May was always a tremendously popular Bastard Sons of Dennis song. It was one of the first songs the duo ever performed, appearing in the duo's first ever live performance at The Angel in Exeter.

The lyrics are a true story. This song was composed by Donald 'Buck Dharma' Roeser, guitarist and vocalist of Blue Öyster Cult, after three friends of his from Stony Brook University in New York were murdered in a drug deal that went very wrong.

Derek would often change the word 'truck' in the line "Now and then a truck" to 'duck'. This was always hilarious, with his exemplary comic timing.

Ducks became something of a theme for The Bastard Sons of Dennis. Fans would often bring their own toy ducks along to shows.

Occasionally Chuck's lips wouldn't be moist enough to perform the little whistle that comes at the end of his solo. This was also very funny. Check would just end up blowing and puffing and shrugging in a comical way.

The whistle actually comes from the 1970s uk sitcom The Goode Life. The character Tom Goode would often give this little whistle. Exactly where Tom took it from remains largely mysterious.

Blue Öyster Cult perform this song in the key of E minor. The Bastard Sons of Dennis transposed it to A minor.

The tempo increase after the first verse was Derek's suggestion. It was a very good one.

Redeemed was always a tremendously popular Bastard Sons of Dennis song. It was one of the first songs the duo ever performed live.

It was added to their repertoire for one of their first ever shows, which happened to be just before Christmas. They would describe Redeemed as their Christmas song, even if it was the middle of summer.

The count-in for a live performance was "One, one," or two other random numbers. This was due to the rather odd amount of beats at the beginning.

The guitars in this version were both recorded live at the same time in Wud Records Studio One. The vocals were added afterwards, and the bass a long time later.

Kapitel: Nachtbeute

Es ist spät. Der Hof schläft nicht, aber er liegt auf der Lauer. Dunkelheit hat sich wie ein Mantel über alles gelegt, und Zelle B läuft los – mit den anderen. Keine Worte. Nur Schritte. Gedämpft. Direkt.
Sie tragen Säcke. Nicht schmutzig. Nicht neu. Säcke, die Geschichten kennen. Die Ecken des Hofes wissen, was das bedeutet: Es ist Containerzeit.
Sie bewegen sich wie ein Kollektiv in Tarnung, zwischen Einkaufswagen und Parklücken, als wäre das Verbotene längst Routine.
Manche nennen es Diebstahl. Hier nennt man es Ernte.
Der Supermarkt ist leer. Die Laternen blinzeln nicht – sie beobachten. Und der Container? Er steht da wie ein Tresor, einer mit schlechtem Gedächtnis.
Zelle B spürt die Spannung. Wie ein Krimi ohne Waffen. Wie eine Szene, die sich selbst zensiert – bis der Deckel sich hebt.
Ein Moment, still wie Gebet. Dann: Offenbarung.
Die Luft riecht nach Milch, Brot und Versäumnis. Packungen glänzen wie Beweise. Erdbeeren, noch rosig. Fertigpizza, noch versiegelt. Joghurt, der seine Uhr überlebt hat.
Und alle halten kurz inne. Freude – natürlich. Aber auch Entsetzen.
„Warum sollte das weg?“ murmelt eine Stimme. „Warum soll das sterben?“
Der Container ist mehr als Behälter. Er ist Archiv des Ungesagten. Jedes Produkt ist ein Gedanke, abgestempelt mit einem Datum, als wäre Zeit ein Urteil.
Zelle B greift nach einer Banane. Etwas Weiches, etwas Lebendiges. Und da ist es wieder – dieses Gefühl: Verfall bringt Gewinn. Aber auch Wahrheit.
Sie füllen die Säcke. Nicht gierig, nicht hastig. Mit Respekt. Mit dem Wissen, dass jedes Stück eine Geschichte trägt.
Dann verschwinden sie wieder, leise, wie sie gekommen sind.
Zurück zum Hof. Zurück zum Ort, der aus dem wächst, was andere nicht sehen wollen.
Das Mahl der Gegenerzählung
Sie kehren zurück. Mit Säcken voller Zeugnisse eines Systems, das aufhört zu sehen. Erdbeeren, die noch duften wie Sommer. Brie, der sich nie gewehrt hat gegen Lagerung. Brote, die Geschichte tragen, aber kein Etikett mehr.
Im Hof werden keine Türen geschlossen. Man kommt nicht heim – man öffnet sich.
Die Feuerstelle knistert, als wüsste sie, was heute gefeiert wird. Nicht nur Nahrung. Nicht nur Rettung. Sondern Triumph. Über das Datum, über das Wegwerfen, über den Gedanken, dass etwas „verfallen“ kann, bevor es gelebt wurde.
Zelle B schnippelt Paprika. Seine Hände arbeiten ruhig, aber seine Augen glänzen. Neben ihm sortiert die Frau mit dem Mantel Käse und Tomaten – nicht wie Produkte, sondern wie Gäste.
Der Junge aus der Badewanne wirft Kräuter in die Pfanne, die singen wie ein Chor aus Grün.
Und alle lachen. Nicht laut – aber ehrlich. Die Töpfe dampfen wie Gespräche. Die Luft riecht nach Ankunft.
Sie essen auf Beton. Aber heute ist Beton kein Boden. Er ist Tisch. Er ist Bühne.
Sie reichen sich Teller, ohne Aufforderung. Denn Teilen ist jetzt keine Geste – es ist die Sprache.
Der Hof selbst feiert mit. Die Wendeltreppe tropft leise, wie Beifall.
„Das war für niemand bestimmt“, sagt jemand, „und jetzt gehört es uns allen.“
Zelle B beißt ab. Die Paprika schmeckt nach Sieg. Nach Wärme. Nach mehr.
Und alle spüren: Der Verfall hat eine neue Funktion bekommen. Er trennt nicht mehr. Er sammelt.
Heute ist nichts abgelaufen. Heute ist alles angebrochen.

Gloria

Being a former soldier, it has always got to me, that veterans,  often suffering PTSD, with no help or support available, end up living off the streets, homeless in the same country they risked their lives to protect, I would really love to see this track make some serious plays, to draw attention to this problem
  Also, I intend to donate a share of the 1st years profits between organistions that provide the help my Brothers & Sisters in arms need, whilst the country they risked life, limb and mind for, forgets asll about them

It's a work that combines the warmth of easy listening with a poetry rich in color and hope. In this work, I retain my trademark '70s sound and writing worthy of a song that's elegant and intense in its simplicity. The guitar, as always the protagonist of the musical spaces, perhaps speaks more than the singing and offers the possibility of dreamlike flights to faraway paradises. In conclusion, a ballad that's a pleasure to listen to, especially while traveling.
