SOS Music takeover Analogue Players Club this week – the new LA based label founded by Maddy Maia & Tottie launched this week on legendary Berlin-based label !K7. To celebrate the label’s announce and its first release, a 14-track eclectic compilation (SOS Music Volume 1) – SOS Music will be hosting a 3 part series on dublab today, and on 9.23 / 10.28 with mixes and interviews from some of the artists on the compilation.

They welcome Nightwave for the first time onto dublab’s airwaves as well as dublab resident Masha herself – who also features her debut track on the compilation along side Maral, rRoxymore, Umfang, Minimal Violence, Ivy Barkakati, Lara Sarkissian, C Love, Hinako Omori, Violet and Nene H. The full release comes out on October 23rd and is available on digital and limited vinyl.

Rhythm Section welcomes Nicola Cruz to the fold with his debut EP on the imprint, ‘Subtropique’, out on the 19th February. The new signing is announced with the hip-hop influenced lead single ‘Individuality Riddim’. 

Inspired by an Ecuadorian upbringing, percussion is at the heart of how Nicola operates, with his style finding a natural home on the London label. Presenting 5 expansive efforts equally indebted to traditional drumming as they are to contemporary club sounds, ‘Subtropique’ remains sonically cohesive without feeling the need to settle to a definable style. The tracks are tied together by a lucid psychedelic thread, which despite challenging the expectations and fundamentals of electronic dance music, demand movement at a time where we yearn for it. 

The EP is a new experiment for Nicola who had to strip back his setup to produce at home, using fewer elements. Noting the power of collaboration, Nicola enlisted long-time collaborator and master of drums Pablo Vincencio for ‘Zularic Permutations’. On ‘Barretto’, Nicola recognises the history of his influences, paying tribute to the North American percussionist Ray Barretto from the golden age of La Fania - a collective and record label originating in NYC in the 60s which is renowned for helping to bring Latin music to a global audience. 

Nicola has gone on to become one of South America's most celebrated electronic musicians, with monthly listeners in the millions across Europe and Latin America via releases on ZZK Records, Optimo Music and Multi Culti, and famous Boiler Room and Cercle performances.

UK based producer Hugo Massien has been slowly but surely making a name for himself over the past few years. Metamorphosis marks Hugo’s debut LP on the E-Beamz Record label.

Having first released in 2014 he quickly built a legion of fans who absolutely loved his bass heavy breaks, sometimes wonky beats, trance rave, and acid tinged sound. By 2018 he had released a winning string of EPs on various imprints including XL Recordings, Keysound, 17 Steps, Unknown to the Unknown and of course E-Beamz.

He now drops his debut album Metamorphosis which brings together all the best elements of Hugo’s creativity into one cohesive release.

My show of the month must be ‘Micha Lensink w/ Charlton’. Apart from being great DJs, they are always fun guests to have at the container. Their two-hour B2B show, a blend of many club classics, definitely got me nostalgic for the dance floor. Would be great to hear more of them together at Café Bakeliet in the future. Charlton even sang along to the lyrics. What a shame that the mic was not on, could have resulted in some unique covers!

Although rhythmic and dance floor worthy, this track’s primary form takes on the immersion of a Transcendental Meditation. With a driving mantra present throughout, it works through different pockets of your mind; surfacing, making sense of and setting free buried thoughts, while always returning to the propulsive sedation of this motif.

Since debuting modestly in 2014 under the alias Kaboko, Lazy Pluto has juggled a diverse array of inspirations, including early-’80s funk and electro, art rock, raw and classicist house, and Dubstep, while putting a fresh spin on the forms to decayed, disorienting effect.

“Ambient music is something that can be used as a tool, I’ll often use ambient music for meditative purposes, you can create such an interesting emotional sensation with this genre, it’s beautiful and relatively unexplored.”
