A study on orchestral arrangement with Divisimate and Audiomodelling.

Supposedly piano variations on an Operatic theme by Mozart (Don Giovanni), a fragment of a Beethoven cadence (from his 6th Symphony I think) appears to have fallen in. Hence the piece is named Mélange des deux. A rare example of double plagiarism.

Penned in 1807 by Irish barrister and poet, Thomas Moore, we derived this classic Irish air from item 105 in "140 Folk-Songs for Grades I, II and III, Volume 7" (1922) using OMR.

The song depicts a scene in the former castle of the High Kings of Ireland at Tara, the mystery shrouded site on a hilltop in County Meath, then fallen into disrepair. Vocal performance and production by @MLucas. 

Our recording features the haunting melody over sampled folk instruments including Uileaan pipes, fiddle, and hammered dulcimer but with an Americana vocal approach -- a nod to the strong and lasting influence of Irish (and other Celtic) music on the Americana genre. 

The emotional power and beautiful melody of Moore's composition has made it a favorite for Irish tenors. John McCormack's rendition (available on YouTube) is a fine example. In structure, it is a simple folk song in two verses:

The harp that once through Tara's hall,
The soul of music shed,
Now hangs as mute on Tara's walls,
As if that soul were fled.
So sleeps the pride of former days,
So glory's thrill is o'er,
And hearts, that once beat high for praise,
Now feel that pulse no more.
 
No more to chiefs and ladies bright
The harp of Tara swells;
The chord alone, that breaks at night,
Its tale of ruin tells.
Thus Freedom now so seldom wakes,
The only throb she gives,
Is when some heart indignant breaks,
To show that still she lives.
