Michigan born Rick Wade might not get the headlines of his more celebrated Detroit peers, but few have done as much to contribute to the house canon as he. For nigh on two decades ‘big daddy Rick’ has consistently turned out deeply channeled grooves that need every second of their often elongated lengths to have best effect. Peppered only lightly with strings, the odd breathy voice or some other delicate hook culled from the funk and soul sounds around which he grew up, Wade’s style is the perfect embodiment of minimum effort, maximum impact.

A famously rapid and prolific producer who turns out hundreds of excellent tracks on a non stop basis, Wade is also the force behind legendary imprint Harmonie Park, which has released classics from peers like Mike Huckaby, amongst others. His own discography stretches to three pages and is a pure gold mine for house heads, with each track sounding as timeless as the next. In DJ terms Rick is just as assured, laying down sets that are tinged with funk and soul and keep you dancing in his long form grooves all night long. From Europe to the US, this true house legend has played every venue worth its salt.

Just a lot of tunes I collect and maybe the stuff I find personally most interesting, jazz funk, disco funk, psychedelic rock etc. I am taking liberties here. As a father of two, I am under hard time constraints. But since my studio at home is finished, I have the possibility to a) hang with my records again b) keep collecting records for a mix over several days. so the mix builds up inside of me already. i go for walks. listen to more music. and then when it needs to come out, it comes out. Didn't wanna play too many people would immediately know in the mix and at the same time, that I can make people fall in love and discover something new. that's the point hey? finders keepers. i hope the vibe resonates, I've definitely dug a bit deeper to keep everyone entertained. With his stripped-down emotional love for music and kind soul, Leipzig-bound beatsmith and all round top geezer Luvless has been steadily cementing his reputation as one of contemporary house music’s finest. The deep house music he’s constantly cooking is a true delight for the ears mind, the body and the soul as it sounds like an undefinable timeless trip. He is mostly known for his work with Rose Records – a label he started with four other friends back in 2011 – and a smattering of appearances on several other labels, slamming down dusty disco edits as well as athomspheric house belters. Since 2017 he’s been focussing on his new project Velours Records, a vinyl outlet for different avenues of the Luvless sound and guest appearances by friends. His music has been described as sweet, gentle even, but banging at the same time. It sometimes pays homage to the old Kerry days with extra magic dust sprinkled on top. You could listen to his products on such labels as Razor-N-Tape, Lüüd Disc or Blaq Numbers and many more.

 

Loyal to himself in this 1-hour mix, Luvless is slowly transitioning from slow-paced deep house beats to mesmerizing house vibes from DJ Psychiatre, Baltra or Benjamin Long. Perfect vibes for the incoming cold winter and end of the year.

Cacophony is by definition a collision of multiple sounds in discordance. Sounds that shouldn't go together basically. Bogotá, Colombia’s Felipe Gordon does this, but in euphony(bringing pleasure to ones ear)! Spreading himself blissfully across jazzy, disco, funky and soulful elements he pours this concoction into his cluby productions and sets which has now given him international recognition. Having put out forty plus 12" releases and an album since 2014, including his brilliant "Timeless EP" on our Karakul subsidiary, he has found himself on labels like Shall Not Fade, Razor'N'Tape, Toytonics and some of the most long standing greats more recently like Nervous records. For Phonica mix 104 Felipe walks us through what for him brings musicality into electronic music, what live elements bring humanity into our dance floors.
