Lesilo was a fictional character in a classic South African series about a man who had control over a ghost called "Lesilo"

In context, Lesilo means to Ghost (disappear) so this song is about the girls that date men for their money and the men that 'break bank' to try keep this kind of woman, only to lose her to a man with more money..

In celebration of our first string of SA screenings of Future Sound of Mzansi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A0ZzKybU1U), we're excited to present a mix by one of the scenes most exciting emerging producers,  Wildebeats. 

"Computer Scientist and producer Mohato Lekena is the alter ego of South African bass/hip-hop producer Wildebeats.  Having been involved with rap since before the word pimping was a compliment, Wildebeats aims to create morphed, future versions of the instrumentals he grew up on. Operating with the glowLDB collective, he hopes to soon bring more jiggle to the local scene."

A chief vehicle of this exploration is electronic music, a staple of South African popular culture. The film explores the past, present and future of the scene and its multiple sub-genres, presented through the eyes of internationally acclaimed artist Spoek Mathambo.

Future Sound of Mzansi 8: Wildebeats

Fantasma are to release 'Eye of the Sun EP' through Soundway Records on 10th November on digital and 17th November on Limited Edition vinyl. .

Fantasma, the latest project of South African innovator and creative pioneer Spoek Mathambo, is a five-man collective which weaves together electronica, hip-hop, traditional Zulu maskandi music, shangaan electro, South African house, psych-rock and punk to form a unique, original and fresh hybrid.

The godfather of ‘Bacardi House’, producer DJ Spoko joins with former Machineri guitarist André Geldenhuys, drummer Michael Buchanan and maskandi multi-instrumentist Bhekisenzo Cele to complete the line up.

Fused by Spoek Mathambo’s futurist vision, Fantasma pulls inspiration from all corners of South Africa: the sounds and spirits of townships and cities as well as the rural countryside. It is diverse not only in its membership but also in its forward-looking music.
