So happy to announce that Oscillate Mix # 41 is provided by Katia aka Katiusha. It is a brilliant showcase of Katia’s vast knowledge about the more leftfield crevices of electronic music. The London-born DJ and radio host has established a versatile profile in the Berlin scene since moving here in 2017. Her radio show “Above The Clouds” on Cashmere explores various physical and emotional connections to different cloud formations by soundtracking them with the help of friends and guest DJs. On the other hand Katiusha loves a good rave and can provide an equally fitting soundtrack to your 140bpm+ club experience. Katia has had appearances on NTS radio, Rinse and is a regular guest on various mix series throughout the web. This mix escorts you slowly from the depth and darkness of Koehler’s - Destroying Angels via Lurka’s bass-heavy - Clean to faster landscapes provided by Heritage and Sibilant. The last third of the mix briefly dives deeper into funkier club sounds, swings back to the body shaking Ctrls Remix of Anastasia Kristensen’s - Volshebno only to land smoothly in the safe arms of Jex Opolis’ - Instant Ocean. Influences:  My biggest influence is undoubtedly the friends and musical peers that I share artistic connection with. Whether it's through organizing events, mixing together at an afters, or sending music across the void - the people who I am emotionally connected to and enjoy chatting about music/art/life with are certainly the most influential in my musical world.

More abstractly I am influenced by narrative in DJ sets. I am compelled by Djs who have the ability to transport me into their unique world. I've experienced this transcendence on the dance floor during sets like Eris Drew at TUF til' dawn in 2018 and Powder closing at Sustain Release. I would, however, say that the DJ does not stand alone in creating this transcendent experience. As an organizer I am keenly aware of the confluence of people, place, and DJ as the trifecta that must act in harmony to create the most special and transformative experiences. Dance music is such an uniquely immersive type of music and that quality creates a situation where the sum is certainly greater than the parts if it's done with intention and care.   

Affiliations/Residencies/Projects: Secondnature ~ a label and underground event series. Formerly a member of TUF. I used to go by Aos and also am 1/2 of the project Sage. 

Favorite Quote:  Ok I would say I do not have a favorite quote. But I have a favorite poem by Rumi that me and a bunch of pals have memorized and say aloud together as a toast sometimes...

"We have a huge barrel of wine but no cups, that’s fine with us. Every morning we glow, and in the evening we glow again. They say there is no future for us. They are right; and that's fine with us."

Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Seek joy and genuine connection through music. Dj the music you love. Technical skills come with time and are secondary to selection and expression of self, so don't fixate too much on mistakes. Uplifting your peers and supporting each other is one of the most meaningful parts of artistic community - if you have resources (and especially privilege) be open to sharings your knowledge and skills.

Swiss pro­duc­er and DJ NVST (@ghettonast) likes to shock her crowd. She thrives on clashing sounds, scenes, genres and textures into uncomfortable new worlds, all of which is a result of coming up from the illegal party scene in her homeland. She works hard to develop and preserve that native scene in many different ways: she is part of the Female:Pressure fam­i­ly, co-runs the French label Big Sci­ence and hold­s down res­i­den­cies on LYL­Ra­dio and Rinse FM. 
 
This week's mix was recorded in Le Bourg, a club in Lausanne that NVST tells us has recently been taken over and is working hard to bring something fresh to the scene. The mix is filled with unreleased tracks from NVST's favourite artists and forthcoming tunes from labels like Big Science, Kindergatern and moshtrq next to some of her all-time favourites. It opens with a collage that includes Tamika D. Mallory's 'State of Emergency' speech of which she says "I remember the first time I heard it so accurately; I knew I should include it symbolically as well because it resonates so much with me."

Hi My name is Mor, My pronouns are She/Her but i'm also comfortable with they/them.

What sound would you listen to… if it was the only thing you could listen to 24/7?

Rain sounds.

What film has the best score?

There will be Blood By Johnny Greenwood , or Tar’s by Hildur Guðnadóttir who also did Chernobyl. 

Describe in detail your favorite place in the club?

The dance floor, there's no club without a dance floor and no party without a solid dancing crowd (not quantity, quality) its where all the magic happens!

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

Reef and Subglow, both parties organized by dear friends. Reef is a special space for bass music on the edges centered in the best club ,Berghain. It's great seeing that music have place there and work so well. 

Subglow is a new party that is already cultivated an amazing community around it, its incredible to see energy on the dance floor at those parties.

If you could transfer all your knowledge from what you do now into something completely different, what would it be and why?

A have a secret wish ( well not anymore lol) to be a booker at a club or a festival, building balanced diverse line ups is an exciting task. Probably not easy as well.

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Quality over quantity
