Sequences Podcast  No 241

Ether, in the literary sense, can be defined as 'the clear sky; the upper regions of air beyond the clouds.', or more informally as 'air regarded as a medium for radio'. Music, as well as the inspiration for it, are ephemeral in nature. In making this album, I often thought about the manner in which the sounds and patterns that form a piece of music are brought in to existence from nothingness. They drift into the listener's space, evolve over time, and drift off like clouds on the wind.

Aethervault is a word born from two ancient roots:

Aether — the unseen essence once believed to fill the heavens; the breath between worlds, where forgotten gods whisper and lost souls drift.

Vault — a sealed chamber, a prison, a treasury of forbidden knowledge.

Together, they form a concept haunted by duality:

Aethervault — the sealed chamber where the unseen is kept.

It is not merely a structure, but a threshold, a containment, a sanctuary for truths too dangerous to breathe open air.

They built it deep within the forest, where the mist never lifts and sunlight dies before touching the ground. The Aethervault— that was the name whispered in the forbidden archives. No records of its construction exist, only fragments of symbols burned into parchment and warnings written in languages long forgotten.

The structure was not meant for worship, nor for study. It was containment. Within its stone heart, the architects of the Veiled Order sought to bind what they could not destroy — a consciousness vast and ancient, a fragment of something that predated human thought.

Those who served within the Gate did not call themselves scientists or priests. They were intermediaries, recording phenomena they could never understand, their writings slowly warping into prayer. When the experiments ceased, the Gate was sealed, its halls lined with sigils that bled rust and memory.

Now, centuries later, the door glows faintly again — a dim, amber pulse beneath the vines and decay. The forest breathes around it, patient and listening, as if waiting for the inevitable return of what once was bound.
