We are pleased to present a crown jewel of the early 80s Italian Minimal Synth scene. 
The MONUMENTS came into being in January 1981 in Turin when Mauro Tavella (keyboards, programming) and Andrea Costa (keyboards, voice) pooled their artistic experiences. From the outset they produced exclusively synthesised music, following the natural evolution in electronic music from the early days with monophonic synthesisers to the latest virtual sounds generated with the aid of computers.

The MONUMENTS released in 1984 their only official record on Discordie, a mini LP called "Age" comprising six incredibly fantastic electro-pop tracks, here reissued by Mannequin Records with 2 bonus tracks, "Veiled Lady" and "The Seals", which are out-takes from the same period. All the tracks were recorded on a Tascam 8-tracks, with external synchronisation of the percussions, at the TKS Studio in Torino.

From 1987 onwards, they focused exclusively on music for theatre, radio and independent film, writing scores for the opening sequences of programmes for some of the most important Italian TV companies as well as soundtracks for documentaries.  

Anna Logue Records released "XXVII" CD in 2009, an anthology of their music that contains the best of their early work from the years 1981-84. 

Some critics thought of this mini LP as being the best electropop record ever coming out of Italy.  A masterpiece!

JOHN MAUS lives in his birthplace of Austin, Minnesota. Whilst working towards his PhD in Political Science, he also composes music that taps into melancholic fantasy and affirms that we are all truly alive. Questing synthesizers, tensely strung bass lines and chasing drum machines providing the perfect backdrop for John's deeply resonant reverb-drenched vocal. Born in the decade of synth pop and sharing his birthday with George Frideric Handel, John started making music when Nirvana posters went up on every teenager’s wall. It’s this curious conflux of influences that partially helps to describe John’s music. It’s a world where the Germs jam with Jerry Goldsmith, Cabaret Voltaire relocate to Eternia and Josquin des Prez writes a new score for RoboCop. The confrontation of punk, the fleeting poignancy of 80’s movie soundtracks, the insistent pulse of Moroder and the spirituality of Medieval and Baroque music all find salvation in John Maus.

We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves breaks new ground for Maus. The shirt pulling and air punching of his impassioned live performance is finally captured in all its frenzied appeal alongside a tender inner space that wasn’t as apparent on his previous albums. It’s a record where promise takes the lead for the first time, providing a counterpoint to John’s default existential calling.

PAST & FUTURE was originally self-produced and self-distributed by the band on his own label Artefact, as a limited edition of 500 cassettes, released in June 1987. It was sold out in a few months.
In 1989, the band was signed under licence to New Rose for the LP "Sounds In the Attic" (on Lively art sublabel), after New Rose had distributed the self-produced EP "Private Life" in 1988. In 1990, New Rose re issued Past & Future on cassette, and another 500 copies were sold.

Out on vinyl for the very first time, these original recordings were produced by the band on a 4-track cassette deck in 86-87, except track A2, recorded on a 8-track tape recorder at 8PM Studio in Lyon (march 87).

Void Vision is a Philadelphia-based electronic project helmed by Shari Vari. It began around 2009 at a time when a wave of synth-revivalists were materializing, but the quality of the songwriting and intense vocals set the band apart from the pack. In a rare instance, Void Vision has managed to combine vintage dance elements with melodic structures, haunting melancholy, and lyrics that have a palpable soul. The songs themselves are dynamic, referencing a cross-section of the last 30 years of electronic music, while simultaneously retaining a uniqueness all their own.

Wierd Records weekly club night in New York, which showcased a variety of talented electronic and coldwave artists, served as an incubator for Void Vision in it’s early stages. After a standout debut performance at the club, they immediately caught the attention of Blind Prophet Records, who consequently released their first 7″ single, ‘In 20 Years’, which received excellent reviews.

Vari has continued performing and recording steadily over the last few years, releasing songs on compilations for various labels, including Rough Trade, and in 2012 the song ‘Everything is Fine’ was selected for Artforum magazine’s ‘Best of 2012′ issue. In 2013, Void Vision toured the West Coast and later that year released a split 12″ with Portland-based band, Vice Device. The first official full-length album, entitled ‘Sub Rosa’ is set to debut on Berlin-based Mannequin Records, followed by a European tour in 2015.

Shari Vari formed Void Vision in 2009 originally as a duo, during the explosion of the new minimal synth and cold wave scene in United States. Sharing the same scene of the Wierd Records associates like Led Er Est, Martial Canterel, Xeno & Oaklander, Automelodi, in 2010 VV released ‘In Twenty Years’ on Blind Prophet (Sean Ragon’s Cult Of Youth record label), receiving also the attention of the Rough Trade dudes, who asked to put out a track for one of their synth wave compilations.
After other split vinyls, tapes and compilations, Mannequin approached Shari with the intention to continue what Wierd Records started, giving a proper shape to her beautiful and youthful dark electronic sound. The result is 10 hypnotic cold analog tracks dominated by the warm and fragile Shari’s voice, some more “pop orientated” some others belonging to the original “cold wave” atmosphere.

“Sub Rosa” is an edition of 400 copies on 160 gram black vinyl and 100 copies on 160 gram white vinyl.
