💿 Lost Dubs 010 – ex per i mental (2008)

This track has been sitting on the shelf for years because it never really fit in anywhere. It has no melody, just rhythm and space. At the time I was deeply inspired by the drum programming of Sixteenarmed Jack and Krinjah — producers I respected not just for their skills, but as colleagues and friends. This was my nod to them.

Originally, this wasn’t even going to be part of my Lost Dubs series. LD010 was supposed to be a remix of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, but unlicensed vocals meant it couldn’t be released. That sent me back to the vaults, and one night after a long session out, I sat with this track again. I heard something in it that I had never noticed before — something I can’t quite explain. Talking about music is like singing about architecture, but it was there.

So here it is. ex per i mental. No melody, no polish, just an exploration of drums, patterns, and negative space.

I’m mostly sharing this here because I think people in this sub will dig it. Would love to hear what you think.

Beat The System - Produced by Subversiv. A superbly created Oldskool style Rave / Hardcore production, with that authentic and extremely clear / crisp sound, freshly built beat / breaks designed from scratch, this track does exactly what it says on the tin.
Subversiv has designed original midi layouts of Synth Chords, that oldskool Hoover and acid sound, all automated to create a more wider and fresh creation.
Subversiv is the guy who likes to record Synth / modular sound variations live to DAW, and that is exactly what he has done here.
Nearer 2/3's way through this track you can see why his love for manual dynamic hoover and acid manual tweaking gives his tracks that originality and in time live feeling.
Beat The system is a classic Hardcore track that has an element of very hard hitting kick / sub base elements, that being one of the likes which makes you wonna get up and dance, crazy shake the room bass!
Beat the system has a certain level of political messages which we'll leave to the listener, but there are classic Reggae vocals with the classic Beat The system samples.
A brilliant orchestrated track with lots of variation.
