I really liked the version of this track I used in my "Slow Soul Flow" mix, teasing out the intro bars of "Inner City Blues" to a few minutes. And using that to build to the next track. But I thought for other people it may be more useful to have a version that teases, then actually drops into the full "Inner City Blues". 
I added a few dubs and changed the ending, because I can't stand ending an edit with a straight fade out.

A while back Pratt & Moody hit the global soul scene with their Stylart debut 7" "Lost Lost Lost", leaving many exclaiming the words "FIRME ROLA" on its tracks. Some even mistook it for a forgotten oldie. Now this vocal/guitar duo gets together with Cold Diamond & Mink for another dose of grade A soul music.

Not breaking the spell of tautology started with the first 45, "Words Words Words" picks up the tempo from ballad territory into the beat heavy group soul category. The pulsing drum track is laced with majestic horn riffs, tremolo guitar, penny arcade organ, and over everything hover the beautiful lyrics by Pratt and his mysterious harmony singers.

If the first single by Pratt and Moody left you yearning for more soul, this one should blow away the rest of your corporal existence.

Words Words Words

Another stone classic 45 from the legendary Sunny & the Sunliners. Following up on the compilation project and full length reissues we have done, we keep on pressing up some must-haves from his amazing catalog of music. Diehard fans will love to see this one.

The A Side is “The One Who’s Hurting Is You” which was never on an album and the original 45 is pretty tough to find, and pretty expensive when you do, to put it mildly… A killer tune that starts out with Rudy Palacios signature guitar riff, dropping into the haunting back ground vocals and met with Sunny’s lead riding the line between gruff and sweet. Sunny lays down the law and tells it as fact, “there’s one thing that’s for certain, I won’t be doing the hurting. The one who’s hurting is you….”

The B Side, another non album cut, and one of the hardest 45s from Sunny to come across, is the original recording of “Should I Take You Home”. Originally released on Sunny’s Key-Loc label, this is the first version, later in life they remixed it to license it to another label making it brighter and more punchy. This is the lo-fi, the gritty, the original mix, one we are sure fans are going to be happy to finally get a copy of. Another killer two-sider, another Big Crown Sureshot.

"It was super cool working with Tim," explains Panama. Panama meanwhile is the musical moniker of Sydney based singer-songwriter Jarrah McCleary. Making his name with acclaimed releases on some of the most exciting labels around including Future Classic and Roche Music, Jarrah's blend of live and electronic sounds and raw emotional songwriting has firmly established himself as one of Australia's hottest musical exports.

Following the release of his debut album Departure earlier this year, Kennebec returns with a digital package of six remixes on 16th October 2020, building on the expansive, organic sounds of his debut outing in collaboration with some of jazz and lo fi’s finest. Upon Departure’s release Kennebec’s naturally inspired, exploratory work drew comparisons from Crack Magazine with early Four Tet, with them calling it “an ode to the beauty and solace found in the Pacific Northwest, to its sweeping landscapes and lush rainforests”. In keeping with Kennebec’s source material, this collection of remixes feels like an organic offshoot, spawned instead of made. The EP opens with Newham jazz maven Alfa Mist’s remix of Quest. A prominent artist/producer in UK jazz’s celebrated no-longer-new wave, for his remix he amps up Quest’s natural swing, employing his characteristic taste for chopped samples while weaving its guitar and string elements into a Dilla-esque jam. With a similar taste for exploring the blurred boundaries of jazz and hip hop, Stan Forebee takes the lilting piano lullaby of Yesterday Tomorrow and cradles it into a laid back, contemporary jazz roller, with undulating pads atop a steady, pensive beat. Getting to grips with one of Departure’s lead singles, Portland’s Kalaido draws all the song’s sprawling musical elements into a tight, lo fi work, emphasising the original’s stand out moment sampling its otherworldly sax solo. Next Santpoort tackles A Monsoon, maintaining its driving momentum while lending his own dreamy tone. Night Time Stories’ own Ash Walker steps up for remix duties on album title track Departure, drawing out and re-emphasising the original’s bassline to incredible, blissed out effect, before prolific downtempo composer Tristan De Liege
closes out the release with his take on the wending ‘Kalahari’, dressing it in ethereal piano chords, chopped guitar lines and warm pads.
