LeftCtrl Best DJ Sets

Moody and emotional, this set is a result of an impromptu tag-teaming session at BRA Camp on Friday @ Burning Man 2013 (Cargo Cult), after a difficult group trip to the Temple full of cleansing, mourning, release, and hope.

First, LeftCtrl set off the mood with his signature deep sound, and mixes for the first thirty minutes, then Kem and LeftCtrl bounce around for the next fourty five or so minutes, until finally  Stickybeats finishes off with a smooth ride.

This set was performed on the Pioneer DDJ-400 which I just acquired. I am pretty impressed with this box. I used all four tracks to mix minimal tracks that go well together. In this set, there is less than 20% of the time that you are listening to just one track. Most of the time you are hearing two or three, sometimes four tracks at the same time.

If you've spent time listening to his sets before, you'll know that he always manages to cultivate and retain energy throughout and this is no exception. Kicking things off at a higher tempo, he gradually takes us into those deeper, rolling beats, similar to that of his own production style, before bringing it back out and into some more vocal, uplifting tones. That's exactly what happened when Fila Brazilia's Steve Cobby & Third Attempt hooked up to create some stunning sounds for their new EP.

B Human kicks things off with the first of two collaborations, and it's all kinds of rolling, hypnotic, spaced-out, Balearic business. Floating minor keys, walking bass and a gorgeous chugging guitar make it sun-blessed.

Language Of The Heart is the solo offering by Third Attempt, and is a tripped out smoker's delight. Soul II Soul, Crazy P and Nightmares on Wax can all be felt, perfect for those early evening or 'back-to-mine' sessions.

Finally, Feeling Seen sees the chaps working their collaborative magic again on a hazy, jazzy, broken beat, doozy of a track that is deep, stripped back and funky as all hell.

The great thing is, it's unusual. A restaurant, a bar and a meeting place for people starting out in the nightlife. People talk, clink glasses and dress up nicely. Stunning evening dresses worn by models meet the casual Glockenbach hipster who carries his wallet in a shoulder bag. And maybe his cell phone. 
Filmmakers, actors and creative minds are all on hand here. Once there was a curious guest who often asked me for IDs and was very interested in my mix. I was happy to provide information and later found out that it was a member of Coldcut. I was speechless with joy.
René Vaitl from Worldleague and the boss of the Pacha Club are always happy about my wildstyle mix and enjoy the evening with champagne, as is customary in Munich.
The building is imposing, a historical monument with meter-high statues and magnificent halls like in royal times.

This is one of the most emotional sets I've ever played. I was scheduled to play at 4am, 2nd to last DJ of the night, while the darkness lifted from the trees and the dawn illuminated faces on the dance floor, my "job" was not to ruin this magical moment, but build something else on top of it. Deep, atmospheric, melancholic, and just generally magical – is how I would describe this set.

This was played on Traktor S4 using all 4 decks: A/B for tracks, C for live input from Native Instruments Massive synth, and D being a sample deck with my own house loops loaded. It is not uncommon to hear 3 and sometimes all 4 decks at once.

Jon Cutler is an American house DJ and producer, he’s New York Born and bred, and has lived there all his life. Cutler began DJing at the age of 15, he’s now the owner of the Brooklyn-based electronic label Distant Music, and releases his own 12-inch remixes on the label. He has teamed up with such dance music luminaries and vocalists as DJ Romain, Scott Wozniak, Michael Watford, Jocelyn Brown, E-Man, Kemdi, Vanessa Freeman and others, creating phenomenal original productions for his own imprint.

Jon first met Sneak back in 94/95 during his first time playing in Chicago. Both Sneak and Cutler stand by the ethos of reminding house lovers where it all came from; they’ve lived it and have seen it first-hand. This mix is a perfect example of Cutler’s tastes in Deep House and his history in the game.

I was invited to play at Space Cowboys fundraiser for the "Keep Tahoe Blue" campaign — an event at a local South Lake Tahoe Americal Legion bar, that drew a huge crowd of both locals and SF Bay Area folks. I heard some people even flew out of Florida for that event!

The set was played on the Traktor S5 controller and using the new Traktor Pro 3 software. Three decks were being used most of the time, where Deck C and D were loaded with remix sets made up from some of my favorite minimal techno tracks, adding a deeply punchy techno beat to already high energy house tracks. 
This is why this set will sound like a lot of "boom" :) 

If you listen carefully9, you will probably hear a bunch of tracks off the Whore House label as I am a huge fan of Hoxton Whores.

At some point, I saw people who were sitting by the bar shake their booty in their chairs, and probably spilling their beers :)

It is an hour and a half long journey into the Sunday morning blues as witnessed by yours truly & friends in Nevada on Feb 22, 2020, after everything that could have been said, was already said, and then some. For the time in your life when only music gets through.

The set was mixed on a 4-channel Traktor S5 with two track decks and two remix decks. Mastered in Logic Pro using Fab, Waves and Ozone plugins.

Nearly the entire set was played in A-Minor.

The Sunset Lovers #23 with dj ShmeeJay

LeftCtrl —(also known as PolyGroovers, or DJ Zeel, real name: Konstantin Gredeskoul) started DJ-ing in the Bay Area in 1998, having been inspired and encouraged by @djethan Ethan Miller (FnF, BrassTax) among others. 

Konstantin produces downtempo music as PolyGroovers, (see https://soundcloud.com/polygroovers for more information).

Starting with the underground rave parties where he threw down Detroit Techno on vinyl, LeftCtrl played all over the Bay Area, with additional appearances in the UK, Spain, and Australia. 

He collaborated with @kem, Captain Tinrib, @henry-navarro and many more.

LeftCtrl's DJ sets feature a storyline, harmonic depth, and a smooth and deep, melodic, nearly always syncopated and groovy sound. Konstantin is an obsessively technical mixer, who admits to the most anal-retentive pitch-matching of the mixes, resulting in some of his entire sets played in the same key.

Since about. 2020, LeftCtrl refocused on the composition and production of tracks for the dance floor: house, progressive, and many genre bending tracks. Currently collecting sufficient portfolio for the upcoming releases in yet to be determined label.
