Late-March sees Simon Baker return to the Leftroom label roster with the ʻOsaka Nightsʼ EP on

Leftroom Ltd – a three track EP featuring a further two remixes from Seattleʼs, Pezzner.

Simon Baker, after delivering a series of standout singles for his own imprint from 2005 to 2007, has steadily become one of the new school of house musicʼs leading lights. A debut LP and slew of singles for the 20:20 Vision label alongside the undoubted smash that was ʻPlastikʼ on Playhouse have made the Yorkshireman one of the most in demand producer/DJs out there.

Itʼs one of the destinations of touring that has resulted in the ʻOsaka Nightsʼ EP, Bakerʼs first for close-friend Matt Tolfreyʼs imprint since 2008.

The title cut bursts open the ʻOsaka Nightsʼ EP with a piercing, phased vocal hit and a ponderous electronicfunk bassline. Moody and absorbing, the openerʼs drunken drum fills and metallic synths combine with the beats/bass undercurrent in perfect balance.

Pezzner steps up for the first of two remixes of ʻOsaka Nightsʼ and in ʻremixʼ mode delivers a glowing

interpretation littered with otherworldly synth flourishes and leads which layer into a warm yet intense texture.

Bakerʼs ʻPick Em Upʼ uses skittering, busy percussion and guttural bottom end to underpin a brutally effected titular vocal hit and bubbling synths that makes for a muscular groove. The addition of flowing FM sounds and an airy, almost human, modulated pad push the tune into overdrive.

ʻHuman Mysteryʼ is the last of the original tracks and treads a decidedly old school, early 80ʼs path with squelching moog bass, broken beats and shimmering synths.

Pezznerʼs ʻNative Language Remixʼ of ʻOsaka Nightsʼ closes the EP with an introspective, stripped feel. The originals vocals flow over a skeletal drumtrack and an unhurried melody before building towards a teasing climax that subsides almost instantly. 

Simon Baker - Human Mystery

Leftroom Records opened its doors in August of 2005 in Nottingham, England. The label is the creation of Matt Tolfrey (Owner). Musically, it was one of the first labels of its kind in the UK, showcasing the off centre sound of house, disco and techno.

Distributed now by Above Board, the first release surfaced for the label on the 5th of December 2005 and was entitled ‘The Extended Family EP’ encapsulating the spirit of Leftroom, a place where a core set of artists could grow and experiment with their sound. The Leftroom family consists of a few key artists including Laura Jones, Huxley, Gavin Herlihy, Sam Russo and Matt himself.

April 2006 saw the launch of Leftroom's sublabel, Leftroom Limited. Musically Leftroom Limited brings a new dimension to Leftroom as a whole, concentrating on anything that wobbles from straight up house, to techno and even the uplifting. The first ep for the sublabel was Tolfrey & Sylvester presents: Popeye-Spinach Disko, a slow brewing, techy, disco record, which came out the end of May 06 with many plaudits. 

With Matt being label owner he proved his A&R capabilities are pin-point in securing one of 2007’s biggest tracks, Ito & Star’s ‘Suduko Kid’ and one of 2008’s biggest crossover tracks, Rocha and Lewinger’s ‘Down Seq’. The summer of 2011 brought you Laura Jones's 'Love In Me' which was a global phenomenon, and Maceo Plex's remix of the same track was Leftroom's first no 1 overall seller on Beatport. In 2012 Kate Simko's 'Go On Then' featuring Jem Cooke stole all headlines, and the same year brought you Matt's debut artist album 'Word Of Mouth.' 

With new albums and mix compilations not to far away, and a whole host of new releases, Leftroom is sure to carry on where it left off which is delivering high quality, diverse dance music.
