This remake took a couple of tries to get right. The original XM competed in the multichannel compo at The Party 1995. It ended up in 16:th place which I felt pretty good about, given that the mix was absolute mooseshit.

Plenty of things ended up on the shop floor for this one. The original drums were all room and no slap. The guitar sample I stole from Zodiak (Hej, Erik!) had to be axed, as did the obscure wah wah guitar sample I forgot the source of. Most significantly, though, that pretty psyched sax solo had to go, as it was nicked from some The Roots live bootleg, so I decided to hand the reins over to the keyboards for this one. When in doubt, always bet on a hardsync solo.

The part at 3:11 is actually a decent enough ending, but I really didn't feel like wrapping it up. Three-minute songs honestly feel too short these days, so I threw in a return of the main motif with this meandering kinda "just play what you want, this is the fadeout anyway" part that was just fantastic to make. Always loved a good jam.

Mooserun

I'd been meaning to nail down the sound of some of the more serious/reflective conversations held in the fourth Elancia book. The characters get a lot of time to look inwards out on the frontier, and everyone's been through a lot, changed a lot, and suffered through it all. No one asked to go on this journey. It wasn't even meant to be one.
I like this a lot better than what I had done during the first album. I wanted to mix the gravity of the story/setting, with the weird/funky feel I gave a lot of the Elancia "lore" songs.

Misfortune Odyssey

This was the last stage theme to get started and finished - and incidentally is also the theme that was used in the game's trailer (albeit in a remixed form). I think it's one of my favourites out of all of them, it's short and sweet. Accomodates "One Snowy Christmas Eve..."

TOHO QUEST - Chapter 12/13

The last of the Order of Tune falls to the ground. Good riddance! Toho, Otoh, and Hoot rush into the palace, worn from the battle that occurred… The chamber they find themselves rises up into the sky, with no ceiling in sight, and is lined from floor to the sky with carvings of ancient beings with pointed ears. Hoot’s eyes light up, and Toho and Otoh approach the center of the room. At first nothing happens… But as soon as Hoot stands with them, the floor begins to rumble, and four massive pillars covered in wind holes rise up from the ground. Wind begins to rush down from above, and the pillars begin to hum a tune! The Perfect Tune is heard! They repeat the melody in unison, and the room fills with light! …But nothing happens! The team is dumbfounded. Is that all? A melody rumored to be perfected is just… a melody? Suddenly, Hoot turns to the two and explains that the melody was a message from her people, telling her to continue living in their stead, as the new bastion for their kind whose time was up! They all grin with content, and turn to each other, asking what to do next. “Next adventure?”, Toho says to the group. Otoh and Hoot turn to each other, already knowing each other’s answer. “Next adventure!”, they say in unison! They group leaves the palace as Hoot looks back with a smile on her face.
