Today’s premiere is the title track from “Dream Phases”, Davis Smith’s forthcoming EP on Chicago-based Leisure Records. Smith’s discography ranges from deep house via their DJ Heaven alias, to ambient and downtempo as Sorceress, and their next release marks their deep delve into electro, impressively channeling old school Detroit emotional energy throughout all four tracks, under their new Ephemeral alias.  

Dream Phases opens with a Drexciyan pad that coils symbiotically with euphoric keys throughout the track, taking us on a five minute daze inducing excursion. The track serves as the perfect opener to the rest of the EP, which rises in energy with “Forever Memory” and “Full Moon”, before “Azure” serves as the perfect melancholic closer to this beautiful EP.

We look forward to hearing Smith’s next sonic adventure with their stunning range of sounds and what they explore next.

The “Dream Phases” EP comes out on Leisure Records on April 14th, 2023

Starcrossed is the story of AQ U1823, a 20-year-old pilot beginning a 5-year contract as a Water Reserve Vanguard to settle their birth-debt with the corpocracy The Aqua Consortium, freeing his family from generations of indentured servitude. However, freedom comes at a steep price for AQ. The contract will take AQ impossibly far from home across the vast network of company jump gates. Past distant stars and uncharted worlds they drift further and further from their home colony, Mmonssidian and their love, Aenerom a 25-year-old local moisture farmer. As little more than company property, AQ only receives 20 Mmonsidi hours of planet side leave during each year of their sentence - precious, fleeting moments spent at Aenerom’s side.

In an impassive twist of fate, as AQ’s exile takes them further away from home, time begins to dilate with as many as 16 years elapsing for Aenerom during each year of AQ’s separation. Each song on Starcrossed represents a brief moment of an annual union between the two distant lovers, and their hope for an uncertain future together.
