The latest release from Melomana is coming from the Croatian artist Squarewave, with an EP with two original tracks and a remix from our guest artist Damon Jee.
Squarewave developes his own slow tempo style in both tracks, Flying Boats and Droids, and Damon Jee's remix of Flying Boats gives the track a dancefloor touch.

CLOUDED HORIZON

This mix tape contains some of my favorite techno tracks of all times. Dating from an era when there was no Facebook, no Twitter and no Soundcloud. An era when you still had to leave your house to buy music, when Arnold Schwarzenegger's picture was still on DJ Hell's label designs, and Jamie Lidell was still doing techno. 
Some of you might know this mix already, but I'm putting it out there again to show that this is timeless future techno. From the past.

Future Techno from the Past

After a chance meeting at Berlin Festival 2014, Czech composer/artist Tomas Dvorak (aka Floex) and UK composer/pianist Tom Hodge (of Piano Interrupted) began a long-lasting collaboration that finally resulted in this year's 'A Portrait of John Doe', an album recorded with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. Described as a response to today's "unceasing pursuit of efficiency, singularity and uniqueness", the album blurs the lines between classical, jazz and experimental electronic music.

Ahead of the duo's live tour in November, Floex has put together this great Monday Mix for us. Featuring music from the likes of Matthew Dear, Alex Smoke and Olaf Stuut, dig in above...

Floex & Tom Hodge: The 'Monday Is Okay' Mix

In 2013, Galaktlan joined the Seksound Records catalog with the release of Second Memory. Since then, Galaktlan has released a number of projects on the Seksound label including full-lengths, EP’s and singles. Now, Galaktlan is back with En Garde, his tenth full-length album, including a number of other projects, and third full-length on Seksound Records. Releasing on September 17th, En Garde escorts the listener to other realms of musical possibilities as electronics take flight and soar into an aethereal, magical atmosphere. Evoking electronic glitch, dance beats, and electro-soundtrack sensibilities, Laatsit soars on En Garde bringing a clear expertise to his electronic compositions. There are ghostly moments throughout the album that sit alongside beats and various electronic structures, both soothing and enticing.   Galaktlan is the electronic, experimental project of Estonian based artist Taavi Laatsit who brings a sci-fi aesthetic to every piece he produces. Currently living in Brussels, Laatsit utilized the Arturia V Collection plus a number of UAD effects on En Garde to magnificent effect. A master of soft-synths and hardware alike, Laatsit manages to create a beautiful successor to Constance. As such, it contains a magical, almost romantic feel that few can deliver given the musical genre. Influenced by his time in the improvisational noise group Kismabande and in another Estonian experimental project called Kulgurid, En Garde has a depth to it with expressive layers and meaningful musical connections.  Taavi Laatsit mixed the album himself while Lauri Liivak, long time Seksound mainstay, bought his expertise in mastering to the project. Not only is the music on En Garde breathtaking, but the  cover art by Andrei Kedrin and layout by Kaarel Vahtramäe are incredible additions that make this album a total package. 
Due out on limited black vinyl and digital formats, Galaktlan’s En Garde is a must have addition to the Seksound catalog.

Night Beast 4: The Beast In Me (excerpt)

Israeli composer, producer, and songwriter Zoe Polanski presents the visual accompaniment to Ya'ar Bein Olamot (Forest Between Worlds), the first follow-up single to her full-length LP Violent Flowers released in July, 2020. Created in collaboration with Tel Aviv-based interdisciplinary artist Ruth Patir and with funding from the Mifal HaPais Council for the Culture and Arts, Polanski’s latest video pairs blooming surrealist textures and celestial landscapes with tender keys rippling in a body of oceanic warmth.

Ya'ar Bein Olamot’s newest form is a product of physical restriction and a shared appreciation for unbridled imagination. Patir and Polanski, friends and neighbors prior to lockdown, found themselves able to spend more time together living within the 100-meter limitation set by the Israeli government during quarantine. After countless late-night conversations about art, philosophy, music (and a bit of gossip…), Polanski and Patir began conceptualizing visual interpretations for Violent Flowers’ most compelling instrumental piece. The final product speaks to Patir’s ability to draw out, develop, and successfully synthesize Polanski’s original intentions and creative instincts through a new medium:

“Ruth's video interpretation of Ya'ar Bein Olamot touches and expands the core idea we had in mind while producing the track: being present in a moment outside of time. Ya'ar Bein Olamot in Hebrew means forest between worlds, and the concept is taken from the book ‘The Magician's Nephew’. In the book, the forest between worlds is thick and dark, and there are small water ponds between the trees - portals to different worlds. Ruth succeeded to create that space, only not as a fantasy - but as something tangible. Her naked 3D environment is a true forest between worlds, conceptually speaking. It has the potential to be anything.”

Aesthetically, Patir landed on depicting wolves as the main character to the song’s narrative:

"Ruth's choice of the leading character is the only visual reference to a real forest - the wolf - which made us really happy. Maybe it's our love of dogs that allowed us to feel an immediate connection to it, even though it has a highly digitized lo-fi aesthetic. Some of the movements used when animating the wolves were inspired by the gallop of the centaurs in the film ‘Fantasia.’ Due to that, there is a naïve nature to their constant movement. We feel emotionally drawn to the wolves and their eternal gallop, and we hope the people who watch the video feel that too.
