Sounds From NoWhere is pleased to premiere a new Petar Dundov' gem on 'Axis'.
When thinking about space I always admired its mystery, beauty of motion and vastness of complex structures stretching from smallest to largest scales. 
Wherever you look at any scale you can observe magnificent interaction of objects, planets, stars, galaxies, moving, dancing like characters in a cosmic theatre. 
In this short musical piece I tried to describe in language of music, four imaginary scenes involving stellar objects, physical phenomena and us in the everlasting search for new discoveries.

Scene 1 - Binary Equivalence

In a not so distant future, physicist discovers the theoretical possibility of harnessing energy from gravity. 
Models showed that if sufficient gravitational waves could be produced by two massive objects, we could create an apparatus that could transform the gravitational force into electricity. 
A special commission of astrophysicists is formed with a goal to find potential celestial objects that could be candidates for prototype experiment.

Coming on Oliver’s own Death & Leisure imprint, The Artificial Animal is no compromise journey through raw data noise, feedback, raw dubby techno and experimental cut-up sound pieces. 
Throughout the 12 track album there is a sense of overload and electronic fevered hallucination counterbalanced with primitive rhythmic machine music.
The pulsating low throbbing bass and soaring synths of Ersatz mark the beginning, the drama slowly builds with caustic noise and arabic trumpet calls. This is closely followed by the stuttering sound collage of The Artificial Animal. Concepts of spirit, artifice and technology are the inspiration for the chopped up clips of tv show exorcisms, inter spliced with feedback and static, creating a bewildering kaleidoscope of sounds and texture.
After this shocking introduction we jump straight in with Snub, a heavy relentless acid track with roaring distorted drones, that constantly moves higher and higher in intensity. The Slow Bleed follows with dubby warehouse beats and metallic screeches echoing in the background. Concrete is next with broken scrap metal rhythms and melancholic synths which bring to mind early Apex Twin. Next is Sink, a barrage of undulating spiralling synths, white noise and mashed down-tuned vocal take everything into an experimental direction. Following this, Neck brings Warp style staccato bleeps and broken beats, creating a kind of plastic funk. Collapse brings atonal synths and sea sick shimmering chords over heavy drums. Blood and Wire takes a turn into ambient synth atmospheres punctuated by heavy blasts of death metal screams and white noise, creating a feeling that Is both ethereal and maximalist in its level of intense noise.
Next is Grey Sands, a dusty atmospheric groove with sparse squarewave bass stabs and industrial high drones. The album moves towards its end with Pervert and its cycling knife sharp buzzing synth drops, raw data noise and psychotic low vocals. The final goodbye is World of Fire, moody ambient atmospheres with glitch slow motion gabba bass drums and the repeated vocal phrase, “Everything’s on fire”. In its entirety the album is a dense collection of sounds and rhythms, theres nothing here for posers, techno fashion victims and party tourists, this music is for obsessives looking for noise and raw broken soul.

Juan MacLean and Man Power debut as Juan Power for Life and Death

Life and Death continue to serve up brilliantly unpredictable releases with a new one that brings together American DFA stalwart Juan MacLean with the UK’s Me Me Me label head Man Power, plus an edit from the boss, DJ Tennis. 

Juan MacLean is a multi-faceted artist who has a history of everything from playing in post hardcore bands to producing some of DFA’s most celebrated releases. He does classy house bangers with synth pop and disco layers like no one else. Man Power, meanwhile, is someone who is fantastically eclectic in what he does on all fronts as a DJ, label boss and producer. He’s made corrugated acid, hands in the air house and machine disco and plenty in between on his own label, but also cult outlets like Correspondent and ESP Institute. The coming together of these two undoubted studio wizards, then, is a fascinating prospect. 

And so it proves right from the off: opener ‘Crescendo’ is a nine minute masterpiece with rickety house drums making you move while the shuffling percussion builds the pressure. Gorgeously warm chords eventually join the fray and have a blissful effect that sets you off dreaming and keeps you in a trance until the end. 

DJ Tennis himself then steps up with an edit of ‘Excuse Me Daddy’ that is deep and cavernous. Next to the suspensory pads is an intricate synth line that takes you in on yourself in perfectly melancholic ways. 

Closer ‘Praise The Toad’ then picks up the pace with more live sounding drums and a sparkling lead synth that rises and falls to cosmic effect. Drawn out over the full length of the track, and in amongst some chattery claps and smart effects, it makes for a journey to the stars that will cast a real spell on all who hear it. 

This is an innovative collaboration between two masters of their craft.

Hailing from Rome, Mooro is the new musical joint of producer and mult-instrumentalist Jac Battle. Active since the mid 90's in the alternative rock scene, he has gained the status of cult drummer with his band Zu (1997-2011) and his collaboration with Mike Patton. Under the pseudonym Battle, he is one of the musicians on rotation chosen by Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo for the new The Bloody Beetroots live show.
He is now ready for his debut on Lektroluv Records as Mooro. The EP includes three electro bangers, that fans of The Subs, The Bloody Beetroots or Gtronic will most definitely love. The fourth track, 'For Those About To Funk', closes the EP in true slo'mo style and sounds like something Daft Punk would make after being locked in the studio with nothing but Red Bull and a Slayer record.
