Very happy to present groove and beats pioneer Doni Kis! I met Doni in Porto back in 2016 at Maus Hábitos Club. Doni was playing and I got hoocked on his selection, skills and attitude behind the desks. His way of smoothly mixing soulful bass beats and catchy vocals to make the crowd bounce has been an inspiration since then. I'm very happy to finally have him on Le Mellotron, recorded in August in the beautiful Duro De Matar in Lisbon, a place that truly reminds me of the chill vibes of Le Mellotron bar in Paris. Soulful Bass and Groove House by Doni Kis

Birthdays are always a moment of deep introspection for me. Since I'm turning 30, I'm reflecting a lot on the past decade that went by so fast. 

I feel incredibly lucky for everything that happened to me over those past 10 years. It was filled with love, friends, travels, adventures and intellectual challenges. And of course music.

Here is a selection of deep groove that made me really happy this year. We've had a crazy cold winter in New York. But even in the worst days, I would play some of those to teleport myself to a remote beach. 

To the next decade of groove!

Nicolas Jaar - Dinner Chez Jeanne

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Motown, the iconic record label launched in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan by Berry Gordy Jr., Carhartt WIP will release a thirteen-piece capsule collection in the coming weeks. The collaboration honors a label that reshaped the sound of American pop music, diversifying its airwaves in the process. 

To mark the collection launch, we reached out to Detroit native Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann and asked him to prepare a strictly Motown music Carhartt WIP Radio show, that displays his personal love for the label.
 
As Moodymann is not man for hasty reactions, he delivered a detailed mix featuring rare b-sides, interviews and live recordings by Motown artists like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Steve Wonder, Kem and Dazz Band. Asked about his very own feelings towards his mix, Kenny Dixon Jr. simply says: “No matter where I‘m standing it’s good to hear home sometimes. These songs are woven into the soundtrack of my own personal movie.”  There is nothing more to add, only: enjoy the ride!
