Lempuyang launches a mix series with a 2hr session from the label's chief consumer of hot beverages & sandwiches. Will be inviting guests to do mixes every other month, or most likely just when we remember to. This one features a mixture of classics, favourites & upcoming tracks on the label.

LPY Mix Series 01 - Alastair Kelly

The second installment in our mix series comes from Bjarnar Jónsson who runs the outstanding Ohm Series label. With a back catalogue spanning over twenty years, Ohm is a mainstay of the deep techno scene. He appeared on Lempuyang in June this year with Octal Industries, and also features on the label's one year anniversary compilation. He's also a thoroughly nice bloke and a fucking good DJ.

Our third installment invites Federsen into the fold. Layering in some subtle phaze FX and including some unreleased promos, the Fifth Interval label boss gies it laldy, providing an hour of sublime deepness. Look out for a release from him on Lempuyang in 2023.

LPY Mix Series 03 - Federsen

The sixth installment in our mix series comes from Fletcher. Let's not fuck about, this is one of the best sets we've heard in a long time. Following a quality release on Mosaic with a Mike Schommer remix, Fletcher appears alongside Mike once more with the track 'It's a Virtue' on our upcoming 'Pura Lempuyang Dua' compilation, due out in November. Did we already mention this mix is the fucking tits?

Andy: "nearly 20 years ago (when all this was fields) a few old heads were coalescing in the nascent discogs forums and where i first got to 'know' Alastair [AEK]. they were exciting times and the dub techno threads helped to broaden my musical horizons beyond its berlin focus. Alastair was generous enough to share a good chunk of his knowledge, introducing me to less obvious labels and artists from scandinavia and japan. back to now and the scene is still thriving (at least artistically) and many of those emerging artists have since become 'real' people and important friends that i've since shared projects with on my adventures. i'm proud of, and impressed by Al's notable impact with lempuyang, his impeccable taste and sustaining the vinyl community.. even in these challenging times. my sincere thanks for then and now x

Hope you all get some pleasure from this set which is nearly all from records, naturally i wanted to bring together some of those labels, proponents of the sounds we love and friends that are important to me as a collector and DT head on a meandering 2 hours.

Legs 11 from the Icelandic powerhouse that is Jónas Þór Guðmundsson. Jónas was kind enough to mix this in a Teddy Bear costume to make himself 38% less threatening. Make this the soundtrack to your family Easter gathering, and keep your eyes peeled for a remix 12" of 2023's Northwest Passage album, coming this Summer.

Hot off the back of last week's ludicrously good set from Octal Industries come Danish duo Merv. Since the 2015 repress of two of their Dancecop classics, Jan & Brian have released tracks on the likes of Vade Mecum, Ranges, Kontakt & Ohm Series. This year they join lempuyang with a forthcoming remix, and a track for the next annual V/A 'Pura' compilation

Yuki Takasaki first appeared on lempuyang in 2022 with a superb pair of tracks which were remixed by Bluetrain & Yagya. He shone again with the track Emergent Structure which featured on the label's second V/A compilation last year, and now provides a fantastic 80 minute journey for our mix series. If all goes to plan, you've not seen the last of Yuki on lempuyang!

For anyone who knows their onions Another Channel has been a buy on sight artist for several years now. His '(Dub) Excursion(s)' and 'Behind the Glow' albums on Moonshine are Desert Island Disc material. Having featured on the Bluetrain album 'Steady Pulse' in 2022, he has more recently collaborated with Steve O'Sullivan as Blue Channel; under which they have a 12" ('Protection') waiting patiently in the lempuyang schedule.

Here we have an all vinyl mix - "2 turntables, one delay and a dub siren. 100% dubwise!"

LPY Mix Series 15 - Another Channel

Y'see, what I love about this mix series is the unexpected. Anyone familiar with Waage will have come to expect deep, yet uncompromising techno. With releases on Thule, X/OZ, Ohm Series, and more recently an outstanding remix on lempuyang, you'd be forgiven for expecting more of the same when we invited him to join the mix series. But here he showcases 2hrs of incredible ambient - expansive, moving, and always deep. Expect lots of unreleased material within - this one is not to be missed.

Steve O'Sullivan returns to lempuyang with his collaboration with Another Channel. Side A features vocal & version cuts of 'Searching', while the driving title track 'Protection' headlines Side B. Heavyweight 180g crystal clear vinyl, strictly for connoisseurs!

Blue Channel - Protection (LPY-20) clips

Lempuyang presents the debut vinyl release of Wade Watts & Sir Rizio. Ultra deep house from the suburbs of Jo'burg, with warm dub flavours, this is one for the heads. A limited release on heavyweight 180g orange vinyl, appearing soon from the usual purveyors & pushers of deep music. Proper!

Our esteemed guest for LPY Mix 18 should need no introduction. The consistency of Pablo's Seven Villas label is insane; top drawer deepness all the way. 

Last year, Pablo was invited to remix a track from the Ohm & Octal Industries album 'Northwest Passage'.  His take on the closing track 'Bára' is every bit as beautiful as the original and is one of the highlights of lempuyang's back catalogue.

LPY Mix Series 18 - Pablo Bolivar

For over 20 years Martin Jarl was something of an anomaly in my record collection. At the turn of the century, I was largely buying records on the likes of Deepchord, Salz, Nurture, Bluetrain & Minus THX. I'd also been following the emergence of some labels pushing the more minimal sound for a couple of years, the likes of Out to Lunch, Playhouse & Raum...musik. After the closure of Atlas in Soho I habitually shopped in Smallfish; and I remember adding Martin's Weetabix EP to the listening pile. Upon hearing it I immediately bought two copies, and for the next two decades considered it one of my 'desert island discs'. 

By 2024 both copies were hammered and full of surface noise, and what started out as a tentative ask for some wav files, turned into an opportunity to re-release a track from one of my favourite records. Frankly I could've gone for any of the four tracks. Whether Martin knew to what extent or not; including a remaster of the title track in last year's V/A compilation was a really special moment in lempuyang's journey. Naturally I also asked him if he'd be up for recording a mix for the series. Martin is anything but prolific, and good things truly come to those who wait.

LPY Mix Series 19 - Martin Jarl

lempuyang proudly presents the first double LP from none other than JS Zeiter. For those in the know, the original JS 12"s were essential, combining the energy of the legendary Chain Reaction sound with the depth of early deepchord. Over the years, he's refined and matured his sound and his releases under his various guises are super consistent and are always buy-on-sight. He's also a great bloke and an incredibly humble producer. Look out for pre-sales of 'Context Collapse' imminently, and keep your eyes peeled for a remix 12"; featuring contributions from Rod Modell, Mike Schommer, Dean DeCosta and JS himself.

Two of our favourite things at lempuyang HQ are deep techno and curry. As one of Glasgow's best exports in recent years, Chris covers both bases. He also happens to be a shithot (geddit?!) DJ and producer. Chris first came to our attention after his contributions to the always excellent OHM Series label, and he was subsequently invited onto our annual 'Pura' V/A compilation, comfortably holding his own against heavyweights such as Hydergine, W-Moon & Merv.

In addition to the above, you'll also find Chris loitering in the rosters of Mixcult, Greyscale, and we highly recommend picking up the excellent Sons of San release on Verdant.

LPY Mix Series 20 - Dubrovnik (UK)

We're slightly excited about this one at lempuyang HQ. You can't release something as huge as a JS Zeiter album and then not give it the VIP treatment, so hot on the heels of the albums release is a remix 12" of epic proportions. Dean DeCosta, Mike Schommer, Rod Modell & JS himself. 

Watch out for the digital release in the new year which will feature an additional & exclusive second track from Rod Modell, a 12 minute ambient take on Desire Line.

LPY Mix Series 21 - Alastair Kelly

To me, this mix is every bit as nostalgic as the Radio 1 Essential Mix shows of the 90s, and I've listened to it more times than I can count. Will mixed this in March 1999; while I lay in an extremely spaced-out heap in his student house in Tottenham. Even more impressive is that this was one of those grab & go mixes where he included records we'd just bought. This mix is typical of the evening sessions we'd have before heading out to the likes of Lost, The End and the Velvet Rooms.

Adrià returns to lempuyang three years on from his first outing, with a no-nonsense heavyweight affair. Low-slung dubs, overt tape hiss, non-dancefloor friendly tempos, it's got it all. Coming soon on limited 180g vinyl.

Copenhagen mainstay & Echocord label boss Kenneth Christiansen joins the lempuyang mix series by invitation. 

Kenneth started Echocord in 2001, which quickly became a label I kept a close eye on. Now approaching it's 25th anniversary & 100th release on its primary imprint; and with the likes of Mathimidori, Sven Weisemann, Babe Roots, and the superb latest release from Mike Schommer, Kenneth shows no signs of easing on the quality control.

LPY Mix Series 24 - Kenneth Christiansen

Andrew Hargreaves, the man behind projects such as Tape Loop Orchestra & a founding member of The Boats, joins lempuyang under his Beppu alias. Off the back of a 2xLP re-issue of his earlier works on Organic Analogue earlier this year, Andrew presents 'Objects', an outstanding & mature full length that yells future classic. 

For anyone who knows their onions, file this somewhere between Detroit Escalator Company and Bluetrain in your collections.

To reimagine 'Objects', we've invited Deadbeat who wraps a cosy blanket around 'Notions', Federsen who takes the stripped dub of 'Ruptures' into 4/4 territory, Merv rework the detroitesque 'Perspectives' into more chord-driven dub shenanigans, and Ohm & Octal Industries provide a hard hitting yet ethereal take on Assertions to close out.
