It's my first and hopefully not last collaboration with the wonderful Dirk Maassen. 
I was very pleased when Dirk asked me to record a guitar part to his piece Déjà vu.
I recorded 2 versions, an improvised version and a more composed version. I decided to post my improvised version. It simply has more charisma and contrast to the piano.

My favorite theme is Metamorphosis.
The violin and piano engage in a pensive and dreamlike dialogue in minor harmonies, supported by ethereal and unsettling motifs from the woodwind instruments, exploring the idea of ​​transition from one state to another.

was already working on an Ebow session, so I built this piece around a deep E-drone: one sustained E on electric guitar (Ebow) and one single long bass note, both on the low E string.

For the prompt, I wrote a very simple 12-note melody in E minor. I played it 12 times, removing one note at the end on each pass.
The last repetition is meant to contain none of the melody’s original notes… which I interpreted literally: I performed two seconds of silence. Probably the cleanest performance I’ve ever delivered.

A small, minimal experiment—half-drone, half-conceptual etude—built around decay, reduction and the beauty of what disappears.
