To get on the road to success, every house DJ has to start small. Speaking of small, I became interested in music at the tender age of seven and wanted to learn how to play the piano. However, the hands of today’s Tim Mitchell were still too small. I had to save that dream for later, but I really enjoyed playing the guitar and drums as a child.

Self-taught DJ
 I was watching a television programme and was fascinated by the light and laser show featured on it. The beat of the trance and house sounds mesmerised me. And hey presto, Timo Michels became Tim Mitchell. I taught myself how to DJ and mix, and the result was the first house CD of a still young DJ Tim Mitchell. I sent the CD to a music agency, but there was still a lot of potential for improvement. I continued to practice, mixed new house tracks and got my first booking as a DJ when I was 16. The club owner was impressed and more bookings materialised throughout Switzerland.

Bigger and bigger house parties
 The parties where I played as a DJ kept getting bigger and the clubs were always fuller. My live mixes were also being played more and more frequently on the radio. Soon I had organised my first solo house party as Tim Mitchell with 1500 guests. I sent my house CDs with live mixes to music agencies abroad as well. Then, surprisingly, I started to receive DJ gigs in Germany. These were followed by DJ bookings in the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy and Austria.

More and more DJ bookings
 One highlight was the DJ booking on New Year’s Eve where I mixed in front of more than 15,000 people. I have also been able to perform at various events in St. Tropez. When I was 21, I decided to produce house and electro music myself as Tim Mitchell. However, I wasn’t even sure how you produced music, let alone special house tracks. It was at that point that I met a music producer who had produced for DJ Bobo, Culture Beat and Andrea Berg, among others. I travelled 150 kilometres every Saturday to his music studio, and he taught me producing from the ground up. I bought the equipment I needed bit by bit and practised daily. He is one of my partners today and I still happily work with him often. Once I became adept at producing, I made remixes for Swiss DJs and produced small singles. I am currently working on the production of my first house album and am being assisted by international singers. The album is a mix of deep house, electronic dance music, future house and big room house.
