Welcome to our new release and cover of the soundtrack “Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain” composed by Yann Tiersen.
This was one of the first songs Oliver played on his piano, John immediately wanted to rearrange Oliver’s recording, and make it longer accompanied with a complete string section.
So they started to record it all over again, they started sending tracks back and forth till they were both satisfied with it.
The fact that they both can’t read notes, everything was hummed on a Dictaphone, so they could hear how it was suppose to sound like.
First the piano track was finished, then the harmonies were created (also by humming) so eventually they could be played as string tracks, this was all done by creating and adjusting midi’s.
Because John and Oliver are not really midi experts, we’re still learning, and a lot of things doesn’t go as we hoped it would, however this piece will be done properly at a later stage too, we hope Matt Baker will join us, as he’s the real midi expert, as it’s very easy for us to say with recordings what we want, but how to execute, that’s another thing.

We hope you will enjoy this piece just as much as we did creating it.

Hi there and welcome to another track in our 'themes' soundset, 'Gravity'

The inspiration for this came from playing around with some flute melodies one day, when I came across this little 4 note rift, which has been used in many Sci-fi film soundtracks. This instantly got me thinking about the vastness of space and how it must feel to drift along, weightless for an eternity.

I decided to create a track that would grow from an atmospheric start, into an almost chillout mid section with more of a traditional theme towards the end. 

I spent a lot of time constructing the various sounds in this track, as I couldn't find ones that would create the kind of sound I was after. Needless to say, I had great fun layering the the various elements to create the complicated rhythms and sound effects, that would really give it that 'Space/Sci-fi' feel. 

I found that using a combination of traditional sounds, interlaced with odd, almost alien sounds worked really well, as it seems to add an eeriness to the melodies and rhythms. One of the last things I did was to add the almost inaudible random beat to the very low end of the track, almost like a drum, but with a nice random quality. This was achieved using a 'Nail in the Coffin' sound, played as low as I could go, utilising the velocity in order to get only the most basic of rumbles.

It was a really fun project to work on and, as always, has sparked another load of ideas!
