This was done for Operator-1.com Battle 34 - Battery Operated.  Our mission was to create a track entirely on the OP-1, but using it and other battery operated devices that cannot connect to the internet.  I used the Korg Volca Bass, Korg Monotribe, Casio MT-540, Casio VL-1 and the TI Speak 'n Math.  Enjoy.

Find new and interesting ways to connect with the nature and enter a world of exploration that bring together music, art and technology."

In this session, I clipped a slender twig from the bougainvillea in my front yard and patched it into the Pocket Scion. I then connected the Scion to Logic Pro X, using it to drive five distinct software synths and incorporated additional midi effects such as probability gates. After exploring different patches, I rendered each of the Scion’s MIDI channels into its own WAV file.

Next, I routed the Pocket Scion into VCV Rack and built a compact instrument patch with two Troikas, a few i-047s, Ceis, and Vinca modules. I added modulation from the virtual Ochd and a Triple Sloths, while running each voice through a 4MS Quad Clock Distributor set to unique divisions. The Triple Sloths slowly warped each channel’s tempo as I recorded the output to another set of WAV files.

Once all the stems were in hand, I moved the WAV files to a PC and curated and mixed the material in Reaper. I blended the Logic Pro X captures with the VCV Rack recordings, sculpting them into a cohesive stereo mix.

For the final touch, I imported the mix into Sound Forge, ran it through Ozone’s mastering suite, and pitched the entire track down by six semitones. 

What you’re hearing now is the result of that process.....
