A self proclaimed loner and music addict, Emily Ricks, who is now 23, describes music as her “best friend” growing up. Ricks, who grew up as an only child on a remote ranch North of Los Angeles, had an unusual start in the entertainment industry at a very young age. After playing a small role in a local community play, at the age of 7, Ricks was discovered, and within one year, landed her on-screen debut as the voice of "Bonnie” in the Oscar winning film Toy Story 3. Since then Ricks has gone on to play many roles in TV and film, but has always been making music behind the scenes. For Ricks, her journey in songwriting began after the loss of her dad at the age of 12. She describes losing her father and her journey with grief at such a young age, as the catalyst that catapulted her into the world of not just consuming music, but also creating it. “Whenever I felt sad and missed my dad I would write”, Ricks states. “I needed an outlet for my pain, and music was that for me.” The first instrument she learned was the drums, then the piano, then guitar. Ten years later, Ricks has developed her own distinctive musical style she is ready to share with the world. Through vulnerable lyricism, layered with strong bass lines and minor overtones, Ricks is able to share her story in a way that reaches into the heart of the listener. A storyteller by nature, Ricks can take a dark emotion, and somehow turn it into a seemingly “not so scary” place to dive into...WELCOME, please come in!!
