Bird Polyphony  (Naviarhaiku 495)

This track is based quite literally on the text from the haiku... I used a dawn chorus recording I made earlier this year during springtime and gave it 4 stems in the partition. The top is the normal recording, then after a little time the 2nd stem comes in, with the same birds song pitched down. Then follow stems 3 and 4 later on, each more pitched down to complete treble, alto, tenor and bass. 
What originally sounded like a crisp dawn chorus here in the woods, slowly sounds like a deep Jurassic jungle...

This is my reponse to this week's @naviar-records haiku challenge. I'm getting my head around some of the potentialities of Logic Pro X and was using some of the smart controls to create this.

Quite minimal, just two small virtual modular patches and a couple of effect plugins. Opens with some ambience from Voltage Modular plus a small addition of Valhalla Supermassive. Then the paperweights, made in VCV Rack and distorted by Wasted Space from Softube and Richter from Klevgrand. As usual recorded in a single live take, a few physical controls were mapped and used but the patches for this more or less played themselves.

These crunchy texture percussive sounds are from samples provided by the Iranian artist Sote. Download and more information can be found here: https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/sote-electronic-music-iran/

To create this track, I loaded up those samples into a drum rack in Ableton and jammed with them on the Push, recording results. 

Very interesting artist and sounds. From that article: 

" ... because electronic music is largely wordless, it is widely perceived to be less of a corrupting influence on the youth of Iran and so electronic musicians are afforded a certain degree of freedom to perform, organize festivals and even tour outside of the country. In this rapidly evolving scene, Ata Etbekar aka Sote occupies a somewhat unusual position; having lived in Germany and the US for most of his life and released on labels such as Warp, Sub Rosa, and Morphine, the now Tehran-based artist is familiar with the realities of music making both inside and outside of Iran. ... The resulting unsteady rhythms, radical sound transformations and extreme timbres make for an at times challenging listen. But there is also much that is immediately rewarding, delicate and beautiful in Sote’s musical meditations on opposition and reconciliation."

2 dI 3  Hole Third (disquiet0698)

The combination of the melancholic piano riff by Leon Clowes combined with the rising tension from Marco Marongiu made me want to add some equally rising waves of noise to the mix. To do so, I employed the Soma Ether which was "driven" by the magnetic fields created by the Ferrous from Landscape which then went through the Cosmos and Zoia, fed back into each other using the Matrix from Future Sound Systems. The resultant cacophony was then imported into Logic, tamed with granular effects, and then layered beneath the Clowes/Marongui combo. I tried my best to be subtle, so hopefully I did not ruin the combo!
