RH006: Sublime Sound - That Love Affair EP

Rory Hamilton aka Hammer's Remmah imprint welcome another rising star to its roster with  a new EP from New Delhi talent Sublime Sound (@anhadkhanna). 

A seasoned producer, DJ, and musician in the Indian music scene, Anhad Khanna has grown to be known as one of the most versatile upcoming acts from the circuit. His debut EP of experimental electronica 'Final Call' emerged in 2020 and was followed last year by lush summer breakbeat single 'Colour', gaining notice within his homeland and marking Khanna as an exciting name to watch.

2022 finds Khanna honing his craft yet further with his Remmah debut 'That Love Affair'.  Conceived during the pandemic at the height of what was a a very uncertain time for those in arts and creative industries in India, Khadda set to creating these 5 original tracks of emotionally driven club music, complimented by a driving remix from label boss Hammer.

“I started to write this EP sometime around June last year and the idea from the beginning was to create something that defines the sonic palette Sublime Sound truly wants to represent. At the same time, the covid situation was pretty crazy here in India, things were very uncertain and creativity was suffering.

"‘That Love Affair’ was one of the first few tunes I produced and I wanted it to be festival sounding. All I could think about was playing music in a club or at a festival and that really drove the idea behind the lush big synths and the breaks - something also prevalent in ‘Now We Are’ which features Basel, Switzerland-based singer-songwriter - Elin Vankan aka Ellivia."

With euphoric buildups, trance-inspired chord changes, and the push and pull of a chopped-up breakbeat groove, lead single 'Now We Are' also lent itself perfectly to an accompanying video starring Ellivia, shot in Basel at the start of the year and set to debut on the Sublime Sound Youtube channel around the EP release.

The rest of the EP moves from the aforementioned lead tracks to the thumping four-on-the-floor cut 'I Can't Run' - a defiant riposte to the feelings of helplessness that threatened to overwhelm many during the pandemic - then, ‘TheLessWeFeel’ one of the oldest compositions Khadda had, now fully reinterpreted to fit the EP and perhaps the most emotionally-driven of them all - inspiring a stand-alone AV film that showcases the fighting of inner demons and challenges with anxiety. 

‘5AM’ ends the EP's run of original tracks with the same sample it began with - with echoing shouts of ‘the way you love’. It’s a reminder of a conversation Khadda had with a close friend about the circle of things and the loop we could potentially get stuck in sometimes as humans.  Rounding things off is the Hammer remix of 'Now We Are', adding new textures and dynamics to Khadda's expansive sound.
