Strange Look (2)

From party people with shoulder pads, big hair, white Rolls-Royces, Panama hats, the Fragrant Harbour that is Hong Kong, had a very unique Hotel / Clubbing scene before places like DD’s, Canton Disco and Hot Gossip opened their doors.

These Discotheques were a place of creativity, panache and mischief of the era. They were all destinations of desire.

After the high-in-demand digital release of the “Extinct Melodies From The Canto Club” we’ve had a lot of requests for more Cantonese edits since features on Stamp The Wax and big names such as Blessed Madonna, Nd_baumecker, Crazy P, Ben UFO, Tim Sweeney and more have dropped these in their DJ sets. 
So we decided to start a series called “廣東會所 Canto Clubhouse” which will be dedicated to Cantonese edits. And what better way to start this series with the two canto head diggers of Hong Kong: MH and RFX. 

Club friendly and cheese is what this release is all about.

Forest Drive West (@forest-drive-west) coming off the back of a fantastic album on Livity Sound that showcased his hi fidelity take on bass, jungle and techno. Here he flips 'The Fifth Planet' into eight broody minutes of involving drum programming and groaning synth drones. A subtly uplifting tune thanks to the gorgeous pads in the background, but real bass heavy system music when it comes to the dance floors.

The original of ‘Silken Moon’, released in 2018, combined musical elements from a myriad of styles – most notably Afro-disco, samba and mid-tempo Chicago house. The creation was a hybrid of bouncy organ riffs, undulating acid lines, clipped Afro-funk guitars, tons of tropical percussion and the chanted, carnival-friendly vocalizations of guest singer Nina Miranda.

Fresh from remixes for Razor N Tape last year and Ninja Tune this year, Demi Riquísimo has been given the controls to ‘Silken Moon’ turning in his own beefed up acid flecked version that uses all the original elements stretching the original to a nine minute epic.
