Lumberjacks in Hell is a records label run by Marcel Vogel, which like the label boss, has a sound that incorporates everything from rare groove and disco to Chicago house.
With recent releases that have featured music from the likes of Karizma, Soulphiction, Rahaan, Dan Shake and of course Marcel Vogel himself, this new release is from Andy Compton & Shamrock.
Andy Compton is an artist who based in the English city of Bristol, has an eclectic sound that varies between soulful house and jazzy R&B. Often working with live instrumentation either sampled or recorded, he is a talented musician who also releases under the alias of The Rurals.
With over 30 albums and 120 EP’s under his belt Andy Compton also heads up the Peng label, which has signed music from scene leading icons such as Louie Vega, Larry Heard, Mark Farina and Osunlade.
A veteran DJ and producer with decades of experience, Andy Compton's music can be found on other imprints such as GOGO Music, Seasons Recordings, Naked Music and the Chicago based Large.
For this downtempo release Andy has joined forces with African artist Shamrock who is a multi-talented musician with a love of guitars and house music, and has built a reputation for playing DJ sets that incorporate him mixing and playing guitar at the same time.
Shamrock is responsible for much of the musicianship on this release and combined with Andy Compton’s production skills the output is soulful house with African flair and Latin influenced rhythms.
The EP opens with the samba percussion and chimes of “Bunny Chow” but it’s the expertly played bass guitar that provides the groove, and plays a game of call and response with the layers of both male and female vocal chants. Finished with some trumpet flutters, this laid back jazz track is a hustling bustling musical conversation, that everyone who listens what’s to get involved with.
