Alterleo returns to Higher Love following up on last year’s well supported 'Experience EP'. His trademark percussive tribal beats drive Jeirach headfirst throughout. Inspired by a visit to a region of the Caucasus Mountains the track is named after, Eastern psychedelia strings combine with dub chords to produce a post new age acid aural workout.

Track 2, The Call Dub version, sees the dial firmly turned to sunrise. Focusing on strings and percussion, the track shimmers and shifts the emotions. Lastly, t label owners the Balearic Ultras switch things up for the incoming restriction free dancefloor. The 303s and sub bass are turned and bounced over a breaks groove.

DC Promo Tracks #807: Alterleo "Jeirach" (The Call Dub)

Attraktors are a power trio, currently residing in Nottingham. Bass player John Thompson is a veteran of the 2-Tone ska revival, having done stints with both Bad Manners and The Selector. He also spent time in Davy Henderson’s wonderful avant / art pop outfit, The Nectarine No. 9. James Flower was a founding member of post-rockers, Six By Seven, where he supplied saxophone and keys. Antony Hodgkinson previously beat the skins for Derby “alternatives”, Bivouac, and collaborated with Julian Cope. Their debut, self-titled LP was released to some acclaim in the press, on Ali Renault`s Vivod label, last summer. The set referencing influences such as Depeche Mode, Eno, Harmonia, Human League, and Kraftwerk. Ron Basejam, from live-wire festival favourites, Crazy P, has now remixed two choice cuts for Brighton`s Higher Love. 

Heavy Water rushes in on a siren-like synthetic fanfare, while dramatic, rattling percussion promises some kind of imminent lift-off. Mr. Basejam doesn’t disappoint, delivering a dynamite, deep, bottom-heavy chug, tested by depth-charge sonar blips. A menacing LFO arpeggio propelling the piece out onto the peak-time dancefloor. Its snarl softened slightly as Ron launches that fanfare once more. Moody, magnificent, body-moving, it drops down to a conga break, and then hits you with some real horns, before bringing that bolshy bastard of a beat back. 

Maximum Minimum initially subdues, suckers, listeners with a more serene start - one of cinematic synths, and kosmische squiggles. Counterpointing this gurgling gear with theremin sighs and epic keyboard arcs. Suddenly this is all then set running, racing, to a riot of rumbling motorik funk. Chunkily bass-ed, its punk edges are eventually buffed by pretty prog harmonies, as the track evolves into an opulent, vocoder-ed, expanse. A piano rolling and rolling, as that robotic voice readies you for ignition on this righteous cosmic rocket.

This release is brought to you by those discerning dealers for chuggy dancefloors and sophisticated sundowns, Higher Love Recordings. With a some heavy hitting releases already under their Brighton belts from Alex Aguayo, Alterleo, Perry Granville and Joe Morris, these Balearic beaus are about to make a deeper impression with this latest offering.

Attraktors have been making chuggy, Kraftwerk inspired electronica in the East Midlands for a while, John Thompson, James Flower and Anthony Hodgkinson released their self-titled album last year on Vivod.  These talented musicians have all spent time in notable bands, the Nottingham trio make glorious noises that reference Depeche Mode, Eno and the Human League.

On this EP Attraktors join forces with Crazy P co-founder under his Ron Basejam moniker. You never know quite what you’re going to get from a Basejam production, which always keeps things interesting on the dance-floor. Championed by Gilles Peterson, he’s had releases on Wolf music, Razor-N-Tape, Futureboogie, Classic and House of Disco, as well as a ton of high-profile remixes for Fouk, Lovebirds, Kelis and The White Lamp. This 10” piece of vinyl is the result of this spectacular pairing.

A curated series where we commission artists to make an hour long mix of whatever inspires them to experiment, produce, play out and what they listen to.

Manchester’s Joe McBride pens elaborate, emotive & intellectual soundscapes, drawing in influences across a spectrum of bass culture and electronica. Having released with Exit Records, Brownswood, Styrax, Auxiliary & Med School, as well as remixes for Model 500, Snow Patrol, Lowb, Max Cooper & a plethora more, Synkro has found a home at R&S sister label ‘Apollo’. 

Major support for Synkro’s music has come from names like Chris Coco, Giles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Prefuse 73 and dBridge. A truly staple artist in the timeline of UK Bass.

It gives us great pleasure to put out our 28th mix by a truly unique musical force in today's electronic landscape. 

Hailing from Manchester, Joe Synkro's talent for creating elaborate, emotive & intellectual soundscapes over any chosen tempo is second to none. Launching his musical career within the dubstep/2-step framework, he has gone on to contort his powerful gift with melody and arrangement to take in almost every electronic musical sub genre. With releases on the likes of Exit Records, Autonomic, Critical Music and the legendary R&S offshoot Apollo Records, Synkro has been carving himself out a niche on the very fabric of electronic music.

This ice-cool mix is one of the deepest, most meditative, thoughtful, and of course bass-driven mixes we’ve ever heard! Catch Synkro alongside Marcus Intalex, dBridge and SP:MC on the Soul:ution showcase at Echo Festival this June.

With light at the end of tunnel and thoughts of dancing again etching ever closer, Higher Love Recordings first release of 2021 sees them teaming up with Mexican producer Alex Aguayo for some unashamed hands in the air peak time electronic righteousness. The EP comes with 2 different takes on the original from label owners, Balearic Ultras and Whiskey Pickle’s Adam Warped.

Not Going Out starts with a bang, knocking out a four to the floor Italo electro cowbell beat and layering the synths to a proper almighty breakdown. A sustained reach for the lazers attack then ensues. What’s your name and what you on pal….

The Balearic Ultras provide the first remix. Developing the sound around Alex’s emotive synths, they add big breaks and a splash of acid. The tracks builds and builds for over 4 minutes before unleashing the ‘Rave Again’ breakbeat house.  

Rounding the release off is Adam Warped’s delicious slice of electronica. It features dance music’s most famous birds, subtle electro breaks and lush key and guitar work from Adam. A completely different take on the tune that would work as the sun sets over Sant Antoni de Portmany or at 4am on Sunday morning in Lost Vagueness with European Bob.
