Life had become nomadic; they travelled from place to place, finding shelter for a day or two before moving on to new climes. It wasn't the life they'd chosen for themselves, but they had no choice in the matter. This existence had been forced upon them by powers far much greater than their own; now their only mission was finding a safe space to inhabit.

Milanese label Nothing Is Real took a brief interlude from showcasing what Italy's fertile music scene has to offer with their 'Made In Mexico' compilation earlier this year, and now they return their attention to their stomping ground through the sounds of Gabriele Lori, aka Astroloop. Marking his debut solo outing, following collaborations on Freerange Records, the three original tracks touch on several sonic influences—from hypnotic house to mid-tempo grooves and driving synthwave—and are bolstered by a remix from Mexican producers Theus Mago and Moisees.

Proudly introducing the latest addition to the Astral People roster, Moktar! Today marks the release of the Egyptian-Australian producer's debut release, “SILK”.

A hybrid style, Moktar effortlessly combines techno with traditional Arabic instrumentation, sampling and producing to celebrate the sounds of his background.

Moktar’s heritage has always been at the forefront of his identity. Navigating racism and abuse was an everyday reality growing up in Sydney's Shire region, especially in the years surrounding the Cronulla riots. Regardless, Moktar’s Middle-Eastern roots have become a source of pride and inspiration expressed in his music.

Signed to Mall Grab’s label Steel City Dance Discs, Moktar will release his debut self-titled EP, an expansive and expressive exploration of techno and IDM through the lens of Arabic percussion and instrumentation. 

His first single, “SILK”, is a microcosm for this sound, embracing complex and traditional rhythmic ideas while traversing emotive melodic states. With a debut Australian tour around the corner, Moktar’s music is beginning its journey and is taking everyone with it.

"My inspiration behind “SILK” has a lot to do with my struggles growing up in Australia navigating racism. I was ashamed of being Egyptian and embarrassed by my culture. I was made to believe that being Middle Eastern only came with negative connotations throughout most of my life.

“SILK” represents how I feel today - the luxury of being comfortable and the ability to move around freely, both physically and spiritually. A constant reminder that racism is only one of many obstacles to overcome in life. I wanted to be able to share my story through this single...today I am proud to be Egyptian."

The rise of the "balearica movement" in the last years has been well supported by dj's and producers from Switzerland, being Zurich one of the most influent cities of the scene, contributing artists like Lexx or Kejeblos and labels like "Phantom Island" that lately have been inside the radar more than ever.

Besides of his brilliant work as "mixer" for different labels, Florin Büchel has been building a great reputation under his both monikers. "CCO", where the Swiss' producer explores darker sounds like acid or elektro; and under his own name where he dares with more sunny and hedonist productions.

Florin Büchel lands in MM Discos with "Serendipity EP" a work that follows the style of his productions signed on "Phamtom Island". Always loyal to his love for analogue machines, Zurich' based producer delivers a heavenly landscape, built beat after beat with a charming laid back style, cheerful melodies and playful percussions.

Romain FX takes over the control on "Serendipity" and brings the track to his own territory, delivering an effective "80's-italo-styled" version of the original made by Florin Büchel.

Closing the EP, MM Discos' in-house producers Bonnie & Klein, take back the mediterranean vibe and the sunglasses to remind us that the summer hasn't finished yet.

When E Was Late was made one night, when Troels and his friend E (who's not a member of the Witness Protection Program) were supposed to go to the first club party after the long lockdown of 2021. E was late, and Troels started listening to the Weatherall remix for Django Django. An hour later, this new track was almost finished. This goes to show that getting to clubs on time is not always the best thing to do.

You Said You Needed Me is a slightly older track from Troels Yuri extensive back catalogue. It's a bit of a melancholic banger, if you're into this type of thing.
