Les Yeux Orange - Voodoo Dub (Rework)

The three tracks for this EP are lovingly crafted using his collection of vintage drum machines, samplers and expansive modular setup, and are presented in both stereo and Dolby Atmos. Opener 'havin it' is quick-stepping, low slung house cut lit up with glistening chords and gorgeous soul samples that shine through next to low-key but euphoric 90s trance progressions. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside while remaining locked to the groove. 'lush' is just that, with summery harp strums shimmering across dusty and speedy deep house drums that sweep you up and fill your heart with hope and joy. It's a richly layered sound with a curiousness that truly enchants. Lastly, 'WNE' straightens your back with upright and snappy drums, woody percussion and frayed edged chords that have a cosy nostalgic glow. Coated in a lo-fi haze, plunging bass and aching vocal fragments pull you in different directions as you hurry to keep up with the frisky groove.

The phrase 'one-of-a-kind' perhaps gets thrown around too much these days, but those that already know Auntie Flo (née Brian D'Souza) will join me in saying this is no overstatement. Building a reputation for having one of the most sonically eclectic and captivating live shows, and the revered ability to combine acoustic and electronic elements like no other, Auntie Flo has been excelling at his own game for a minute now.

And now, Auntie Flo is back with a new EP to feed our hungry souls with his beats inspired the sounds of the universe. This project, already with Four Tet's backing, is the product of D'Souza's yearning to share his love of traditional African rhythms, and a wish to bring them to the world's stage. Here, he employs an impressive array of session musicians and a Ugandan ten-string harp, recording it all at the Santuri Studios as part of the Ugandan Bayimba arts festival in Kamapala last year.

"Rainfall on Red Earth" is available in its full 16-minute beauty as part of The Soniferous Garden EP, which will be released in full exclusively on vinyl by Sofrito early next year.

Thomas Gandey hits Noir Music later this week (Friday 23rd December) with his rework of ‘Lovemachine’, 1978 future disco band, Supermax’s track of the same name. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of it above.

Gandey first rose to prominence in the mid noughties as Cagedbaby, and has since gone on under his own name to see release through Carl Craig’s Planet E Communications, Get Physical, Crosstown Rebels, Suara, OFF, Desolat and Monkeytown.

On his rework of ‘Lovemachine’, Gandey turns in an arresting cut tailored for late night dancefloors, complete with his trademark haunting vocals. It comes as part of a two-tracker that features Re.you and Pleasurekraft’s remix on the flip.

Informed by years spent building electronics and collecting records in Chicago and honing crowd control skills in the foggy clubs of London, "C Powers" output approaches multiple rhythmic configurations via the intent of generating human response expressed in dance. C Powers is currently residing back in his home state of Georgia and is holding resident DJ posts at Atlanta's "Hunger" club night and his own "Cape Fear" in Savannah, Georgia. C is also the resident DJ for Savannah's own "House Of Gunt" performance group who through cross sensory stimulation experiences involving gender blasting action and choreography. Chris's recent output includes 12"s on Proper Trax, CGI, Niche-N- Bump, as well as producing tracks for 18+ (Houndstooth/Fabric).  All Right is a sample-based late night banger with remixes from house music heavyweights Parris Mitchell (Dance Mania), Kai Alce (NDATL), and John Barerra & Will Martin (Dolly, Argot). Two exclusive tracks are available only on the digital release, the Don Knotts (aka Dan Briggs, Stray Current/NYC) remix and stripped down “Percapella”. Get on up !
