@worldwideunlimited gives the remix treatment to @user-14305412's 'New Year's UnResolution' — Where L’Rain’s single is perhaps her most overtly pop-influenced so far, Python’s remix falls squarely into the chill-out ambient category bringing to mind his own downtempo epics that nod to the likes of Boards of Canada and the epochal Café del Mar series. DJ Python is a pillar of the Brooklyn/Queens based scene via a long-running residency at Nowadays. He gained wide spread recognition for his release Mas Amable on label Jenny Slattery’s label, Incienso.

We’ve got new music from multidisciplinary Dublin-based artist Jakliu who unleashes a fresh EP. We premiere the title track ‘Don’t Forget, a melancholic trip through saunterings soundscapes and floating melodies, brilliantly blurring the lines between experimental and club sounds.

Jakliu is a 27-year-old Electronic artist from Dublin, Ireland. Working from his bedroom, he aims to create music that is both melancholic and atmospheric, and utterly personal. Honing in on a deep and drifting sound he aims to take listeners on an emotional journey.

Growing up in Dublin, Jakliu has taken inspiration from various corners of Dublin’s rich music culture. Jakliu has taken pockets of influence from contrasting sounds including classical music, nature, and electronic music, thus developing a unique sound that blends together different genres and styles to create something that is truly idiosyncratic.

As he continues to develop his sound, Jakliu is poised to make a significant impact on the Irish music scene. His music resonates with listeners who are seeking something more from their music – something that is personal, emotional, and authentic. With each new release, Jakliu invites his listeners to join him on a journey of self-discovery and emotional catharsis. 

We premiere ‘Don’t Forget’ a melancholic yet haunting journey through fleeting chord inversions and crawling textures. Jakliu creates a somewhat cinematic feel to ‘Don’t Forget’, using carefully selected sounds and poignant notation placement, he manages to craft a radically unique take on droning ambient while also leaving a touch of club energy. This is a beautiful and eerie composition of textured sonics.

Leftfield pop project das SPEZIAL mints its second EP with the drum talents of Radiohead’s Clive Deamer and remixes from experimental icon Matthew Herbert and Italian house innovator Fango.

das SPEZIAL is an art project rooted in collaboration, driven by British-Iranian producer Shahab Notghi’s endless search for the fiercest talent, from unknown singers to world-renowned mixing engineers, all with the aim of creating spellbinding, experimentally-minded sound and vision.

The second record in the KIDS series introduces Taya Michington, a precociously talented singer- songwriter plunged into the psychedelic, technicolour SPEZIAL sound-world. After raw, improvised songwriting sessions, SPEZIAL spearhead Shahab Notghi built up wild sonic tapestries drawn from modular synthesis and experimental signal chains around Michington’s voice.

Echoing the process on past SPEZIAL projects, the additional collaborators are an essential piece of the puzzle. The tracks on KIDS#2 grew in stature with the multi-instrumental intervention from regular collaborator Stew Jackson (Massive Attack, Phantom Limb) and the addition of celebrated drummer Clive Deamer to the SPEZIAL constellation. Having previously recorded and toured with the likes of Radiohead, Portishead, Robert Plant and Roni Size, Deamer’s distinct percussive touch deepens the rhythmic drive of KIDS#2

Building on the striking sound of Daniel Avery’s remix on KIDS#1, for the second chapter pioneering UK producer Matthew Herbert lends his unmistakable touch to ‘I Had A Dream’, a club-minded flip of ‘What Does It Mean’. In the wake of his widely acclaimed 2023 album The Horse, Herbert responds to SPEZIAL’s curious spirit by drawing on his peerless legacy of non- conformist house music with a show-stopping dancefloor version.

Alongside Herbert’s remix comes a version of ‘I Had A Dream’ from celebrated Venetian DJ and producer Fango. The Degustibus Music boss has a fascinating, wayward approach to 4/4 himself, and his interpretation comes on as dramatic electronica splashed with grandiose synth-pop sensibilities and a finely tuned balance between tension and release.

As the net gets thrown wider and more singular talents feed into the project, das SPEZIAL continues to be an incubator for visionary artistry and unbridled adventures in sound.

With his One EP still getting love from the likes of 
Spinna, Jamie 3:26,
Osunlade and many more, Jimpster strikes back with another release to lift spirits during these unprecedented times. Produced during the first few weeks of the worldwide lockdown, it was his intention to spread a message of positivity and optimism which can be felt on title track Smile For A While. The overall mood of the track has a slightly ambiguous yet heartening tonality, with a filtered looping vocal sample taking centre stage whilst piano lines and analogue arpeggios layer up adding depth and texture. The subtle and seductive groove will draw you in and its warmth and soul will make sure you smile for a while. Flipping over we have Echoes In My Head which takes a more percussive approach based around a rolling bassline and crunchy live hihats. Taking a slightly darker route, Echoes In My Head feels like Jimpster has successfully managed to get all his influences to meld together perfectly to form something cohesive and substantial. His love of 90’s ‘intelligent techno’, On-U sound, early US house, ambient, all going in the melting pot and forming a track which we’re sure will be something of a secret weapon for many DJ’s. Just the kind of track that can completely hypnotise a discerning dance-floor during the hazy hours. Closing out the three track EP we have the Head In The Clouds Mix, which is an alternate version of Echoes In My Head which heads in a more soulful direction. Piano chords and a bending bassline grab your attention whilst a percussion-heavy groove and dubby elements create space and depth to draw you in and ensure you get lost in its heady confines.
