Our Starry Universe is an independent, quality record label from Brooklyn. The obvious progression of three veteran New York DJs, producers and record collectors as an outlet for their musical projects. The label is about music for inspiration and relaxation whether you are on the beach or riding off into the sunset. Their next release ‘Need Somebody’ is the debut single and debut release on Our Starry Universe for Hazy James.

 

It’s a project by James Armstrong, one half of Birds of Pandæmonium and a Scottish born musician/producer based in Brooklyn, New York.  Hazy James creates psychedelic explorations intended to soundtrack the journey of seekers. The music stretches airy melodies that glide over feathery textures of warm layered synthetic and organic instruments, all held down by an emotional weight and anchored by hypnotic beats.

 

The title cut ‘Need Somebody’ is lush and melancholic, the haunting vocal chant “need somebody” with shades of Spacek. This is slo-mo house that may move the soul more than it moves the body. The B side welcomes deep house evangelist Sean Johnston under his Hardway Bros  moniker, who highlights the brighter moments adding colourful arpeggiated melodies over a bouncy beat, creating a euphoric dance floor future classic.  Sean has been a fan of the label citing its output as one of the highlights of 2020.  When offered the pick of the release schedule he chose ‘Need Somebody’ without hesitation, transforming the introspective chugger into a piece of beautiful Balearic bliss.
