Rising Argentinian label LOGIA Records reaches its season finale with “Velocity”, an essential 8-track EP by none other than Alex Aguayo (FREEDL038 as Mahkina) in collaboration with m i l l o, who jumped in with some post-punk overtones and Dark Disco influences to deliver “Broken”, the fourth and last but not least original of the release. Insightful remixes made with love by BT COP, Playa Del Carma, Corresponsal, and Celestino (SXDNS009) provide the icing on the cake.

If Logia is closing its 2021 activities, the same cannot be said of Alex. The Mexican producer has been having an extremely busy year so far: His originals and collaborations appeared on vital Indie Dance labels such as HEARec, Espacio Cielo, Paradiso, Boite Music, Emerald & Doreen, Odd Pleasure, Nein, Mélopée, NUFF, among others, and it is extremely possible something else will pop up before we can say “Happy 2022”. 

Premiered here, the title track, with its 119 BPM, is not as fast as its name suggests but is definitely one of the highlights of the EP. The bouncing bassline, energetic guitar-like synth layer, and melodic leads bring to life a must-have piece. It pairs perfectly with packed and filthy dance floors.

The latest signing on Iptamenos Discos is the stunning debut EP by Dina Summer that features remixes by Black Light Smoke, Wiener Planquadrat & Time To Sleep. Fronted by Greek native Dina P., ‚Dina Summer’ is a collaborative band project by the producer Kalipo and the DJ/producer couple Local Suicide. 
After performing on local radio stations as a teenager, Dina began making waves as one of the first female DJs in Thessaloniki while also pursuing her studies at University. She later moved to Berlin where she met her husband with whom she formed the duo Local Suicide. The powerhouse has made a name for themselves releasing on labels such as Eskimo Recordings, Lumière Noire, Ombra INTL, TAU & more. Through their exploits, Beatport declared them as one of the key figures in the uprising dark disco scene. Around 2013 they met Bavarian born Kalipo while raving at Rock am Ring festival. At the time he was performing at the festival with his band, Frittenbude who are famous in German speaking countries for their unique mix of electro, punk & rap. Kalipo recently released his critically acclaimed fourth long player on KI Records which features artists such as Rampue, Ira Atari Oberst & Buchner & more.
It wasn’t until 2019 that the trio finally starting working on music together. The result was a unique blend of late ‘90s electro with elements of ’80s disco and new wave. 
Their first outing ‘Who Am I’ is a new wave / disco-hymn consisting of German & English vocals. They’re accompanied by stomping drums and a beautiful synthesised melody laid over a synth-arp that maintains the tracks momentum. 
The Club Version of ‘Who Am I’ is slightly faster and hits a little harder. In this track one can clearly hear the trio’s infamous ‘technodisco’ sound at work. The drums still stomp but with more depth and the synth-arp has a more rugged texture when compared to that of the original version.
The B-Side, titled ‘Fortune Teller’, is a groovy dance-floor bomb with nasty moroder-ish bass-arps, epic strings, spoken word elements and a slick breakdown followed by a banging and cascading drop that sucks in and hypnotises listeners.
Legendary US producer & composer Jordan Lieb aka Black Light Smoke’s take on ‘Fortune Teller’ turns the tune into a deep electro weapon with a wobbling bass-lines that ride perfectly with the drums and groovy synths. The glitchy vocals and the ominous sound of the strings give this track an awesomely dark atmosphere. 
Austrian duo Wiener Planquadrat – who recently released their debut single ‘Stillstand’ on Iptamenos Discos – transform ‘Who Am I’ into a masterpiece reminiscent of Soulwax’s iconic sound. This is emphasised by the dirty and bouncy groove, rugged tones and drums that are sure to make your body snap along with them. 
Croatian producer Time To Sleep, who recently released tracks on Disco Halal, Permanent Vacation & more, delivers a glitchy 128BPM dub techno re-interpretation of Fortune Teller with driving drums and a rolling bass-line that doesn’t let up. It’s filled with warm reverb filled percussion and an ethereal synth lead mid way through that makes you feel as though you’re floating while rounding off the EP

The thumping in your heart beats faster and faster. Your breathing deepens; heavy, but steady. The adrenaline gushing through your body as if you could be in this state forever. Not sure if you’re ready for this but the feeling is exhilarating yet terrifying. Everything is under your control and you’ve never felt more powerful. “Dominator” by Kalipo & Local Suicide is an electro anthem filled with physicality and furor, and the exact feeling of determinedness and power. Vamparela’s vocals are similar to that voice inside your gut that you can’t get enough of, while the driven baseline and 80s inspired analog synths will occupy your mind and centre your thoughts. “Crocodile”, the second track of the release, is the other side of the coin - not any less definite, however more haunted and introspected in contrast. It isn’t always easy, but let’s take authority and dance it out before life consumes us!

The double single “Dominator / Crocodile” will be released on February 5th via Hold Your Ground, including mixes by Theus Mago a.k.a. Bufi from Mexico City and Radial Gaze from Saint Petersburg. You get used to loneliness, but enough to break it even for a day, and you have to get used to it again, from the very beginning.
2020 is being a rough year for everyone but people in Calypso believe that music is a way out for many people during this moments, so they decided to go ahead with their schedule of releases. For that they welcome SHMLSS to Calypso family cult, DJ duo from the Netherlands running "XXX the label". First up on "The Long Haul" EP is the title track that sets the mood with a smooth growing tension melted to perfection with the bass and the hypnotic synths. Moving on, the next one is "Taiko Dreams" that immediately hits you hard with a strong bassline and mental arpeggios that grow into a trancey journey ideal for a sweaty night. "Bunker" brings you into the mental trip the duo wanted to take me you and everyone else, again with hypnotic arpeggios and dreamy pads that grow into an interstellar Sci-Fi chase. Finally, to close this mental trip, you ahve another duo to enjoy for remix duties, Club Tularosa. They've put out some bombs last year and this time they took "Taiko Dreams" and gave it a treatment for big clubs and festivals making it an epic journey that explodes into a dance frenzy.
