Parisian girl about town Marina Trench is dropping some very impressive moves on her Sweet State imprint, the label created to house her own recordings and those of other highly talented individuals thus far. ‘Imperméable en été EP’ dropped the other side of Christmas and is followed up by a set of remixes that will make the boys blush. Gerd Janson grabs hold of ‘Ose’, the track created by Marina in collaboration with her good mate Hug LX. Janson brings in a whole new bassline that dances around Marina’s own vocal (which incidentally is peppered throughout the entire EP).  Man of the moment Earl Jeffers treats listeners to a deeper house groove that sits at the intersection between UK house and afro house,  burying the listener in his vibrant and flamboyantly colourful perspective. Closing out is another one to watch on the Paris house scene, Tatyana Jane, who does something so completely unrecognisable to ‘Hirondelle’.  If this doesn’t slap you in the face and say sit up and listen, I don’t what will.

This is the splendid deep follow up EP by our favorite Liverpool artist Petals In Sound. After her great label debut last summer where she already showed us her wonderful atmospheric electronic sound, she now continues on a journey through that same spaced-out house territory. “Dial Tone” and “Lush” are both laid back groovers that sooth every dancefloor and are perfect late, or better, early hours tunes to steer dancers gently towards sunrise and out of smoke filled clubs, homewards with warm musical memories of a danced and spaced out night.

“The Sea and Everything in It” is a personal fave here as it combines great percussive rhythms with her unique style, arpeggios and dark synths electronica, deep like a warm spring day. The outdoor raves will be a perfect setting for this one! Last we asked our other new label member Pete Bandit from Berlin to remix “Lush”. With his own debut “Wild Feelings” he already set the tone showcasing his expert percussive and driving house sound. Here again he turned the original into a loopy “New York House” style jam with cool funky drums that fit in perfectly with the other tracks and make this whole EP a tight and delightful package. To mark this pivotal half decade anniversary, Manchester brand Do As You Please are launching an eight track VA compilation, trail-blazing some of Manchester's hottest prospects in electronic music. The release celebrates and redefines the label's sound, building the foundations for a powerhouse of talent. 

Shining a light on the North’s hotbed of innovative artistry and culture, and maintaining the brand’s ethos to nurture grassroots talent, all eight tracks on the release come from local producers. Do As You Please has called upon friends new and old to curate a collection of music that’s ready for a world stage.

The sound of the compilation is dynamic and doused in character and groove. Each track showcases the artist’s prowess within the sub-genre they’ve explored. Running through the release is a leading-edge UK and European deep & tech house sound, with Mica (UK)’s beautiful & deep “There’s Ya Dip”, Haze’s fun-loving but cool-as-they-come “Gelato”, and Moiser & Haze’s underground roller “Rula”. 

Swales’ “Forgiveness” provides a progressive, peak time, acid tinged masterpiece, affirming that the young producer’s devotion to his craft is paying dividends aplenty.  

 DAYP resident Rhodri’s “World Rhythm'' exquisitely flies the flag for the classic US house & techno sound, echoing the foundations of Manchester’s electronic scene.. An unrelenting, percussive piano groover giving a nod to the pioneering fathers of Chicago and Detroit.

Joe Roche’s candid approach to a driving dancefloor weapon with “Who’s This?”, is reminiscent of early Patrick Topping, with added underground acid appeal.

Samo Lung returns to the label with “Turbo Uber from TWH to DBA”. Sam’s seasoned ability and expertise shine throughout this track. A Nu-Trance acid pumper, purpose built for Manchester’s Strange Quarter venues - The White Hotel and Derby Brewery Arms, exactly what it says on the tin! 


Leeds’ event outfit, Limit’s boss Rowland (UK) closes the compilation with “Chaos Engine” - a journey best experienced locked in from start to finish. Hypnotic house music at its best with forward thinking ideology, arrangement and sound design.

Ambient synths, a deep bassline and trickling plucks form ‘The Prelude’, this is the introduction to an LP oozing character, told by Allergy Season and Heist artist John Barera & Beats In Space affiliate Brian Abelson. After being eased in by the opener, title track ‘The Arc’ picks up speed with hypnotic arpeggios and doom-spelling harmonies, working in unison to build up tension throughout its five minute runtime.

This is before toucan sounds’ resident vocalist Brandon Markell Holmes enters with a soft-sung ballad, Barera and Abelson’s intricate instrumentation forming a subtle and effective backbone to Holmes’ unrivalled voice. This is a varied album, touching on groove-laden dance tracks like ‘I Was There’ and ‘I Am Free’, to the sluggish trip of ‘I Believe’. Summarising the LP perfectly, ‘The Return’ closes out the release with the infectious strum of a bass guitar and carefully designed layers of melody that, much like the rest of the full-length, speaks endlessly to the imagination. 

Once dubbed one of the “New York techno scene’s hardest working DJs” by Resident Advisor, John Barera has honed his craft via his Cross Street label, as well as appearances on labels such as Soul Clap and Dolly. His style ranges from techno, electro through to house and acid, and has seen him grace the halls of influential international clubs like Panorama Bar, Fabric, Razzmatazz, and many more. 

Brian Abelson is responsible for co-producing and writing records on labels like Beats in Space, Sinderlyn and more, all while holding down a residency at New York’s celebrated Bossa Nova Civic Club. After a recent glimpse at collaboration via their 2022 ‘Myrtle Ave Wetlands’ on Sorry Records, NYC scene stalwarts Abelson and Barera now team up for an LP rooted in left-field house music, combining their wealth of influences and experience to deliver a quality vinyl album full of unique artistic expression.

Having surfaced from a 20- year hiatus this year with two new albums, Anoesis continues his restored run of form letting loose a five-track masterclass in IDM, electronica, house and electro on Cyphon Recordings. Showcasing a signature touch crafted across the ‘90s, the ‘Stasislogue EP’ flies the flag for the fact that Howard Dodd has by no means lost the ability to make a dancefloor move. Operating in a far-flung corner of the cosmos, Anoesis was responsible for some truly mind-warping breakbeat and IDM across the ‘90s on labels such as D*Fusion Records and Octopus - releasing tracks that always felt like they were made in another dimension. 
Continuing where he left off, the EP opens with ‘Track Thirty 7’, a production that could just as easily have come from Mars, as it could Detroit. Glitched out yet driving, conceptual yet considered, it’s got an ethereal urgency that moves limbs with purpose. ‘Callisto’ follows, part UR, part dream house - an emotive, eyes closed journey with soaring pads and glistening synths laid over a bubbling beat. ‘May Eleventh’ rounds off the A side and gives a real insight into the modulated mind of Anoesis, a hardware-heavy, underwater electro trip that nods to the deep-sea dwellers, Drexciya. Flip it over to find ‘Space Watch’, a skippy house bumper with a grooving low-end and lunar transmissions hypnotising from the off, before a peak-time, dancefloor-focussed slice of mind-expanding electronica, ‘Places For People’, rounds off the package. Honed in the ‘90s, yet firmly rooted in the present, it’s clear to see that Dodd’s ability to write absorbing, interplanetary machine music with a human heart at its core is as strong as it’s ever been.
