UK artist Liquid returns to Kniteforce Records this November with a twelve-track album entitled ‘Lethal’.

Eamon Downes, aka Liquid, is behind the seminal classic 'Sweet Harmony', which helped define the early 90s UK rave scene. After he and his production partner, Shane Heneghan, signed to XL Recordings, they released the pioneering ‘Future Music’ EP, which included the breakbeat dub classic 'Liquid is Liquid'. After going solo, Eamon cemented his reputation for producing challengingly alternative floor fillers with 'Time to Get Up' – described as a "progressive gem" – and the Balearic-tinged, flamenco guitars of ‘One Love Family’ EP, both of which were Mixmag singles of the week.

With Top 20 singles in the UK and numerous hits in Europe, Liquid has achieved substantial commercial success while maintaining critical acclaim. The brand-new album ‘Lethal’ follows 2017’s ‘Energy Flows’ and 2019’s ‘Spacemonkey’, drawing on formative influences but with contemporary production skills and slabs of breakbeats, featuring reggae legend Earl 16, Echo Ranks, and the rave scene's Rachel Wallace and Niki Mak.

The album kicks off with 'Wrong Sun', which layers funky bass slaps, dubbed-out textures and soulful vocals before 'Battle For The Minds' make way for rave stabs and powerful, breakbeat rhythms. Up next, 'Kill For You' delivers rave euphoria through spaced-out pads and angelic leads throughout whilst 'Dread Inna Babylon' lays down sub rattling jungle rhythms and Echo Ranks' iconic ragga vocals. Spiralling melodies, choppy drum work, and bleepy synths feature in 'Machinic Repetition', leading to low slung cut 'Broken' deploying ambient moods and tension building lead vocals from vocals Rachel Wallace.

'Morphine' and 'Lethal Beats' together provide reverberating, peak-time dancefloor cuts with dizzying rave modulations and rumbling bassline before making way 'Blood Like Dope' floats throughout cinematic soundscapes, gentle vocals and growling bass frequencies. 'Funk Remove Machine' with orbiting synths, rippling percussion and trippy elements until 'Plasticity' offers an emotional climax with soft keys and uplifting pads before the breakneck beats crash through. Rounding off proceedings in style is 'Blackwave' with its hypnotic sonics and echoing fx, intricately unfold with pure elegance.

He'd become a master in the art of lying; his charm, wit and good looks helped him in that arena. The lines had blurred so much between fact and fiction that he almost believed his own tall tales these days - he'd created a persona that was so far removed from the way he used to be. Many of his old friends no longer felt like they knew him; his priorities had changed and somewhere along the road he'd lost himself.

Art punk ravers The Umlauts are following up their recent release for PRAH Recordings with a remix package featuring several producers and label alumni. Each bringing their own styles to the table, and all a perfect fit to amp up the frenzied energy of the originals, the EP rallies the likes of London based sound-designer Yuri Suzuki, Teleman drummer Hiro Ama and duo Uh, among many others. 

Speaking about Yuri Suzuki's track, the band said: "Yuri Suzuki’s remix of The Fact was pure joy to hear, we love it. It remedies the samba punk of the original with pure unfettered dance groove. Am I tapping my foot? Yes. Am I nodding my head? Yes again. Am I doing a slightly awkward side step? Indeed I am, oh yes. Yuri is the perfect birthing partner. Go and listen to everything else he has made, listen twice, it’s all brilliant."

PREMIERE: The Umlauts - The Fact (Yuri Suzuki Remix)

Blossom Kollektiv is proud to unveil their first full-length release since relaunching in 2022, with Porto’s Pixel82 and his first album “Infinity” set to make its appearance this June.

Pixel82 talks about this work, which was produced during a time of forced introspection and uncertainty, as a rediscovery of the past to find the future. He wanted to create an uplifting vibe for the songs on the album while still having a subtle dystopian feel in them.
To achieve this sound, he experimented with polarities and used sounds that are personal to himself including organic sounds from nature and even from his personal life with the use of a recording of the heartbeat from his own daughter.

During the nine-track expedition, the artist creates an honest tour de force,
without the constraints of making dance floor shakers and the end result is a highly effective trip that electronic music lovers around the world will adore, not only for listening but also with various moments that will work wonders on the dance floor. Each track is carefully crafted to play off the other with lively alluring synths, eclectic beats, and clever use of vocals throughout the album that seals each track together cohesively.

Beginning with “Breaking Free” its creative use of vox paired with uplifting synths sets the mood of the album that leads to the title track “Infinity”, an underground pop venture with the same feel-good vibe but with catchy vocals that are sure to be stuck in the listeners head long after hearing it. Then the broken beat tracks “Beyond” and “Alien World” whisk you off to strange new worlds with interesting broken beat drum patterns and synths that keep the same harmonious vibe as the rest of the album.

Moving on to the second half of the album “The Grid” takes you straight to the dance floor with bouncy synth lines and tight grooves that is sure to keep the energy high. “Space” and “Sunset” present the liveliest tracks on the album that are perfect for those early morning sunrise moments if used in a set but also very pleasant to the ear for home listening. Arriving at our next destination to slower jams with “Music Box” the minimalistic approach to the drums along with the pleasant melodies keeps everything woven tightly together until finally arriving at our final chapter. “Theta” brings everything effectively to an end with an ambient beatless experience that brilliantly wraps up the release and will keep the listener coming back for more.

The final message of the album leaves an impression of hope through the title “Infinity” that comes from what the artist calls a simple idea of a loop, the continuum of life, togetherness, and union, which he has seamlessly expressed through his own experience during a time of the unknown. As the listener takes an intimate tour of the album’s soundscapes, they will surely find the light at the end of the tunnel, either at the intimacy of their own home or on a sweaty dance floor.

PREMIERE : Pixel82 - Beyond

Earthy Measures 13th release sees them delving deeper with a 5 track EP from the Colombian, OKRAA - very much inspired by his native country, and his most personal release to date.

First track on the EP 'Song To Say Goodbye' is inspired by African communities in Colombia, Desplazamiento, & based on a native Colombian rhythm called 'Bullerengue' with added Electro & Acid elements.

Baile de Fuego (Fiebre Mix) takes its inspiration from communities from the Pacific coast of Colombia. Their native instrument, 'Marimba de Chonta' was used as the main source for the track, which was then processed and combined with elements of the UK Bass Continuum and Acid House

Bunde Niebla was inspired by the tradition of Colombian 'Alumbranzas', a local religious musical ceremony, with which the indigenous group of Yanakona's in the region of Nariño meditate through the use of self-made bamboo flutes and drums + prayer.

Many testimonies speak of spiritual healing and premonitions. This was also the chance to pay a nice homage to Colombian Indigenous musician and Luthier Cenen Omen, who inspired and taught music to several generations of local and indigenous people in a sadly forgotten area of Colombia.

The song also samples a track by an ancestor of OKRAA called 'Bunde Tolimense', which is the anthem for the Colombian region of Tolima.

Aura explores a more introspective nature, the lyrics in Spanish speak about facing your own ego, to understand it's a burden that you can let go of to finally become free/yourself/one.

Arbol: Ex-Humano was an experiment that OKRAA always wanted to try: Salsa + Acid House, which he did it after an Ayahuasca trip. In English - Tree: Ex-Human.

Notes from the artist -Desplazamiento (El Baile Como Salvación / Dance as a Salvation): Many indigenous people, and members from the country-side communities in Colombia have been forced through the years to leave their hometown due to expropriation of their lands, forcing them to live in cities in extreme poverty. The feeling of helplessness and the wish to help them but not being able to make a huge difference for the lack or shortage of money. There's many artists and musicians that have had to go through this, and they make art their way of coping with it.

-Espíritus y Árboles: The 'Awá', an Indigenous group from the area of Nariño in Colombia, have several ways of seeing life and beliefs that inspired me, one of them especially, which was that all humans become trees after they live their human lives, and they remain in the land as living creatures to guide or sometimes punish humans.

The pixels darted and danced across the small screen, they flickered and flashed with a radiant glow before vanishing forever not to be seen again. In the background the sounds and sirens of a magical world chirped and chimed as he pressed the buttons furiously with vigour.

It was time to smash bowser, to leave him in the dust and banish him from the box.

The arcade was crowded, an existential escape from the wild world outside. Music played loud and the whoops and screams of excited patrons echoed through the ranks of the old building.

It was all that was left.

XINDL is set to release a new record via Subject To Restrictions Discs. It's a nostalgic affair, a nod to old 90's EBM, electro and beyond as the record whizzes and skips between sounds. This track 'Smash Bowser' is a bit of a secret weapon.
